Can you read my story to be, possibly, and tell me what you think?

UNREALITY-
Lia picked at her fingernails, deep in thought. Her best friend, Alli, sighed. They were sitting on Alli’s green polka dotted bed. Alli finally spoke, “Lia, Lia, where art thou Lia? Ohmygosh Li, focus!”
Lia slowly looked up and stared at her friend for a moment, still unfocused, but then nodded. “It’s cool, I’m good,” she said.
“Li, you zone out, way too much. Seriously,” complained Alli, “What are you thinking about, I mean, could you tell me please?
Lia looked at her friend and contemplated what was hiding behind her dark brown eyes. Her friend was about her height, five feet, five inches, and was really intellegent, for a 14-year old, anyways. She had dark brown hair, a really sweet smile, and a heart shaped face. Lia sighed loudly and thought about her own reflection, the one she stared at in a mirror every morning. She was plain, long brown hair, brown eyes, glasses, and tan skin. She was also 14 years old, but about eight months younger than her friend. Nothing really that unique. The only unique thing about Lia was she didn’t know when she would die.
In the world called UnReality, everyone knew when they’d die. Right when there were born, a nurse would tell their parents when. Then, it would be recorded in the Book of Aging. Alli was going to die when she was 73. Lia never knew. She could die when she turns 100, or within a few seconds. Lia hated the fact she didn’t know when.
Lia had heard the story from her mother numerous times. As she recalled, it went like this. When you were born, the nurse, Patti, placed you in my arms. You were the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. The nurse then got out the records, and was about to write down you age, when suddenly she passed out upon the floor. I had been just about to ask her the number, but that was when she fell. She lay there, and I shrieked, so loudly, people came running. Then you started crying, loudly. The noise echoed throughout the room, and nobody could quiet you down. I wanted to cry out, to find out how long you would live for. You do know, that after 5 minutes have passed, you can’t tell anymore, right? Well, I screamed out to all the people, but they ignored me. I cried, tears flowed down my face, as did you. Your face was bright red and I realized, you must be cold. I held you closer and pulled up a blanket while the doctors rushed around, trying to revive the nurse. No matter how much I screamed and cried, they never answered me. My baby, I’m so sorry, but you’ll never know your death date till you die.
Lia shuddered a bit at the memory and looked up to see Alli staring at her warily. “Ohmygosh, Li! You seriously need to stop that!”
Lia smiled warily. “I’ve got something to tell you Alli,” Lia admitted. “I’m not sure when I’ll die. I don’t know how old I will be when I suddenly pass out dead. I don’t know if it’ll be now, or in fifty years. I don’t know Alli, I’m sorry I never told you before.”
“Li-ah! Your sense of humor right now is so not funny! Seriously, can you just tell me when. I’d prefer to know if you were about to keel over dead in the next five minutes. I mean, I’m dying at the age of 73, probably while I sleep. I told you, Li, can’t you just tell me!”
“Alli. You are my best friend in the whole entire world. I’d tell you if I knew, I swear.” Then Lia proceeded to tell Alli the true story, the exact one her mother had told her, over and over again.
Alli stared at Lia, and Lia stared back. Alli stared a bit longer and finally grimaced. “You aren’y joking, are you?”
Lia nodded, not knowing what to say. She had wanted to know ehn she would die all her life, but she never would. Life was so unfair. Then again, thats what her mother always said. Life is unfair, Lia. You have to live with it.
Finally Lia stood up. “Alli, I should really get home now, thanks so much for inviting me over. I’ll see you in school tomorrow, okay?”
Alli nodded, and frowned just the slightest bit as Lia walked out the door.

a bit heavy handed how you point out what they look like, in my opinion. Good idea though.

just a couple things that didn’t work for me…

the word ‘anyways’ after the description of the girl. it shouldn’t have an ’s’ at the end of it.

also, the screaming infant, usually when infants scream that loudly and profusely it increases the blood flow and sometimes they even sweat, so, the infant being cold doesn’t work for me.

its a great story idea… it really could go far. keep working on it! i like it.

Continuation–

Lia walked slowly home, focusing upon the cracks in the sidewalk. Why? She thought, Why me? She continued to ponder this question but then realized, Crud! I forgot my sweatshirt at Alli’s! Lia turned around to backtrack and get it back, then suddenly realized, Alli may be mad at me… I don’t need my sweatshirt now, so I’ll wait and get it tomorrow, after I make sure she doesn’t hate me too much. I sure hope she doesn’t. She is my closest friend. Then, just to stop herself from fretting, Lia ran the rest of the way home, even with sweat pouring out of her pores, and the sun beating down atop her head.
“Li-ah! Li-ah,” came a call from the kitchen. The call bounced out of the room, along with the scent of some kind of meat, and the chopping sound of a knife upon a cutting board.
Lia sighed “Hey mom,” she called weakly.
“Oh whats wrong, my darling?”
“Nothing, well, something. It doesn’t matter,” Lia responded quietly.
Her mother stared at Lia, concern written on all her features. “Li-bug, is this about your Death Day again?”
“Again, mom?” Lia retorted, “I haven’t complained that much. It’s just a big deal, okay? I wish I knew, and I wish there was some way I could know. There’s got to be a way! If you can just find out when I’m young, why not now? I want to know mom, and I will, somehow, someday. I’ll finally know when I pass out upon a cold floor, or I fall off the edge of a building, just because I suddenly die! I can’t wait that long mom.” Then Lia frowned, “Plus, I don’t complain that much.”
Lia’s mom started to sniffle, and stared at her daughter with a look of sympathy and concern. “Sweetheart, you just told Alli, I presume? How did she react?”
Lia whimpered, “I did, but she didn’t say anything. She thought it was all some nasty joke. I’m sure she must hate me now, but I didn’t mean to be cruel, Mom. I didn’t want to tell her. I was afraid. Now she must despise me, even though she told me everything, I hid everything from her, and for 10 years too.” Lia then burst into tears and cried out, “Mom, I’m such a terrible person!”
Lia’s mother then took Lia by the shoulders and steered her to the kitchen. “Li-bear,” she said, “Sit down, have something to eat, and don’t worry. Nobody could hate you, my darling.”
Lia then sniffled and tried to smile as a plate was placed in front of her. She ate without thinking, because her mind was still on another matter: Alli. Alli and her had been friends since they were five years old.
