How Do I Wipe My PC’s Hard-Drive Completely?
I got a Dell PC about 3 years ago now, and about 5 months ago it got a virus, it’s making it go VERY slow, to the point where I packed it up and stuffed it into my closet.
Now I want it back cos I need to put music files onto it for my Ipod :)
But with this lame virus it’s impossible.
So how do I wipe the hard-drive, make it as if i’d just bought it?
I no longer have the instruction booklet due to my carless mother =[
The system restore points are no good either, all the ones I can access only let me go back 2 weeks (when I still had the virus itself)
ANY IDEAS GUYS? IT’S SOOOO ANNOYING!
The PC is a DELL DIMENSION 4700 With Windows XP Home Edition.

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
If you have a copy of the OS, you can do a destructive installation of the operating system.
you could go to trendmicro dot com and use their housecall feature.
It will run for a while, but it finds and cleans viruses and spy/malware.
I don’t have any dicss or anything like that, It’s just the tower, monitor keyboard and mouse. I’m waiting for someone to tell me what to do lol
I would like for you to go to My Computer and tell me how many disks you have under the section Hard Disk Drives.
Not hard disks, DVD drives
HouseCall is free.
oops sorry about the last post. it was for another post
After following Start -> My Computer, you have nothing under a section labeled Hard Disk Drives?
Can you list what is listed in My Computer?
What is there?
3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
Local Disk (C:)
The DVD reader folder thingy
Shared Documents
Owners Documents
[My Mums] documents
My sharing folders (For Msn)
That’s it
Only one hard disk drive. I figured that.
I can offer remote assistance.
Remote Assistance
Invite someone you trust to help you. Using an Internet connection, anyone running Windows XP can chat with you, view your screen, and with your permission, work on your computer.
Magnet… giant magnet… stick directly on your HD overnight… guaranteed wipe.
Though it’s pretty unlikely you’ll ever be able to reformat/use the HD again.
You really don’t have to go to all that trouble if you just use HouseCall.
Up to you.
without any windows or boot you have to get your computer formatted reloaded put windows back all programs .true there is another way IF you have access to the net on your computer let someone help you from the outside .Meaning Remote Access like
verum causa suggested ….
If your PC seems like its slowing down and having a hard time surfing the web or just doesn’t seem right. If you think that you have a virus or bug. You need to clean it out first to find out what’s causing the problems. Here’s a few programs that I use regularly and they take very little time and skill to run.
You should go to http://download.com and get these programs.
AD WARE AND SPY WARE REMOVERS:
AD-Aware: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.htm…
Spybot search and destroy: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search…
CCleaner: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000…
If you don’t have an Antivirus program you can use.
Avast: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Ed…
or AVG: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Viru…
and for your firewall a good program is
Zone Alarm: http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Fir…
Install these programs and run them regularly. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)
Or, you could jack your brain directly into the media-poop-factory. Forget the Hard-Drive man… just wet-wire it!
