Find help: I am just not sure what to do. - Help.com

I am just not sure what to do.

I moved in with a boyfriend at the beginning of June. It didn’t work out and I moved out while he was at work on July 1st. He has not found a roommate yet, I told the landlord I didn’t live there anymore, but I still have to pay half the rent. Is there a time limit he has to find a roommate? Am I allowed to turn off the utilities because they are all in my name? If he can’t turn them back on in his name because of bad credit what happens to the apt? Can he be kicked out? Please help, I need to get out of the lease and move on. Thanks for anyone with advice!

if you are on the lease.. you are stuck.. that is why landlords make people sign them.. so that if they decided to move out, the landlord doesnt get stuck.

as for the electric and such.. since you dont live there anymore.. i would give him so many days of notice that it will be shut off… because you dont have to keep it in your name seeing you dont live there.. however.. the lease, you are stuck unless he finds another roommate..

As far as the electric and utilities go, I don’t think credit matters in terms of getting service. Call the company and tell them that you no longer reside there as of July 1st. They will contact your boyfriend to have the utilities put in his name.

As far as the lease, you might be stuck. Could you help your ex find a roommate?
