Love help: I’ve been in doubt about this for more than a year now, and I still can’t figure it out. - Help.com

I’ve been in doubt about this for more than a year now, and I still can’t figure it out.

I write, I love and live to write (in Dutch) and I’m doing quite well. My poems are getting published, my short stories won some important prizes in literature, but at the end of the month I’m making next to nothing. I’m almost broke, but I want to keep writing. Yet, I’m almost forced to get a ‘real’ job and be unhappy for a long long time.

What to do?

Can you perhaps get a part time job of some sort to supplement your income from writing? Maybe that would be enough, and part time jobs are not nearly as depressing as 9-5ers.

Yes, and I do sometimes, but often I’m asked to speak to young people about writing (I’m 22 myself) and it’s just one of the things I hate giving up because I have to be at work. You’re probably right though that the answer is in the compromise, but I’m still doubting.

So many people give up dreams because they get caught up in jobs. Find a job that is flexible and one that provides a little income but does not require too much from you. I had a friend that worked at putting books away at the library. She did 4hr shifts and did not have an exact time to be there. She just needed to come and do it before the end of the day.

Just don’t let it get in the way of your writing or your ability to share your passion with others.

Thanks, I needed to hear that. Still, such a job is rare to come by - I’m searching for it every week. But thanks again.

If you find a job close to that one let me know. I would even move for such a job :)

Tht’s right! :) BTW: I am pleased to present to you this opportunity to introduce your self and your Poetry at our recently launched website: www.poetryvisualized.com aka polumi.com. As the name suggests, our site is dedicated primarily to visualized poetry – featuring mainly Video Poems (VPoems, for short). It is the combination of poetry with sounds, music and images – photographs, videos, graphics and animation. If you use images to present/support your poetry that can be defined as visual poetry as well.

Our advantage is -because of this specialization it will be easier and more efficient for your audience to access poets and their poetry. Please take the time to visit our site poetryvisualized.com and you will have a better understanding of what we are and how we can be used to promote and enhance the enjoyment of Poetry.

My best and good luck with your writing!
