Computer Math

Ah, I could never get my head around this. If a 300MB file takes 6 hours to download, what would the average transfer rate be, like 120kb/s?

300MB is ~300,000KB.
6 hours is 360 minutes is 21600 seconds.
300,000KB over 21600 seconds is 13.889kb/s

300MB is equal to 8×300=2400mb MB= megabytes and mb= megabits

2400mb/120kb/s=20,000sec

3600sec/hr

20,000sec/3600sec/hr=5.5 hours

so your six hours allows an extra one half hour for goof ups.

to change MB to mb you have to multiply by 8
there are eight bits in a byte.
Computers use bits and bits make up bytes.
And so many bytes makes up a computer word.(2)

And don’t forget a nibble (4 bits) or a half word (16 bits)

If you like MATH check this one out.
360/222.365=1.618

360 is the perfect circle.
222 and 333 are interesting numbers as are 444 555 ect.

365 is the days of the year minus a quarter.

And 1.618 is the Golden Ratio.

Google and Wiki. Have fun dude.
