Not if/when they steal the election again. I’m scared they will – why wouldn’t they?

But you’ll be voting only to make a statement, and that’ll be one less vote for Obama, who has an actual chance of winning.

No. You aren’t the only one. It is truly alarming to think this country may vote people like Palin and McCain into an important role or position such as the presidency! Unbelievable at a time like this! This country needs the leadership of an intelligent and thoughtful individuals who are willing to work with the people and for the people to make it strong again. Fighting just leads to more fighting and the negative effects of it trickle down into our economy and into our livelihoods. Even if it means choosing the lesser of two evils I just cannot throw away my vote on a spoiler who may have the best intentions, but does not stand a chance. Obama has proven to me to be an educated man of integrity with good intentions and suggestions I feel he is more likely to follow up on to the best of his ability.

Yeah. It sure is embarrassing. I was just traveling abroad and the rest of the world really is watching and wondering about this country’s choices (maybe more so than some of our own!) Most people I spoke with hope we don’t make the mistake of putting someone like this in a position of power. Unbelievable!

They’re Turning Into a Lynch Mob
by NowAndZen
The Daily Kos

Tues October 7, 2008

I hope yesterday was the low-water mark of civility in the MCain/Palin campaign, but I’m afraid that McCain and Palin may be heading down a dangerous path and that they do not know where it ends. They may actually be 1 step away from being the rallying leaders of a lynch mob. Their inflamatory speech is metaphorically asking their supporters to bring tar, feathers, pitchforks and torches.

Let’s look at yesterday’s scary developments.

- Palin supporters shouted nasty epithets at reporters and an African American AV technician.

- Palin made totally unfounded and inflamatory suggestions that Obama is a terrorist or is at least friendly toward terrorists and that he doesn’t see the country the way you and I do (wink wink).

- In response to the obove comments, one Palin supporter yelled “Kill him!”

- Palin was introduced by a shaved headed sheriff who denounced what might happen on election day if Barack Hussein Obama is elected.

- McCain asked rhetorically and impregnated with pejorative meaning “Who is Barack Obama?” One McCain supporter yelled “A terrorist!”

- In an interview with Bill Kristol, Palin raises Reverand Wright and Bill Ayers and states that we should be talking about this more. Both old news. Both debunked.

- Palin questioned Obama’s patriotism.

- The McCain campaign announces that they are abandoning discussion of the issues, as the Dow drops 800 points intra-day.

What is the intention behind all of these things? Do they actually think that the Presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket is a terrorist and hates America? They must know that is not true. But cynically they are preying on fear, racism and division and hoping that some of this **** that they are flinging will stick. Of course, McCain and Palin both have enough **** in their past that should preclude them from being qualified to throw ****, but that won’t stop them.

This is dangerous and I’m a little afraid. Don’t underestimate the ignorance of the wingnut supporters. First it is one person yelling “Kill him.” Then another yelling that Obama is a terrorist. Where does that lead? Mobs of angry wingnuts looking for violence? Voter intimidation at the polls? Out of control Lying and smearing and intimidation?
The shocked look on McCain’s face yesterday when that person in the crowd yelled he’s “a terrorist” said it all. He recoiled as if he never expected to hear something like that. It was the look of a guy who just realized that he might have just gone to a dark place he didn’t want to go to.

I’m concerned about what comes next. I think that McCain and Palin may be knowingly or unknowingly becoming the leaders of a fear-mongering, racist, verbally-threatening mob and it’s up to them to reign this thing back in before they become the leaders of something disturbing. That may sound like an exaggeration , but yesterday, their campaign trail literally saw fear-mongering, racism and verbal threats. So how much of an exaggeration is it?

“He Lied” About Bill Ayers?

October 10, 2008
FactCheck.org

McCain cranks out some false and misleading attacks on Obama’s connection to a 1960s radical.

Summary

In a TV ad, McCain says Obama “lied” about his association with William Ayers, a former bomb-setting, anti-war radical from the 1960s and ’70s. We find McCain’s claim to be groundless. New details have recently come to light, but nothing Obama said previously has been shown to be false.

In a Web ad and in repeated attacks from the stump, McCain describes the two as associates, and Palin claims they “pal around” together. But so far as is known, their relationship was never very close. An Obama spokesman says they last saw each other in a chance encounter on the street more than a year ago.

McCain says in an Internet ad that the two “ran a radical ‘education’ foundation” in Chicago. But the supposedly “radical” group was supported by a Republican governor and included on its board prominent local civic leaders, including one former Nixon administration official who has given $1,500 to McCain’s campaign this year. Education Week says the group’s work “reflected mainstream thinking” among school reformers. The group was the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, started by a $49 million grant from the Annenberg Foundation, which was established by the publisher Walter Annenberg, a prominent Republican whose widow, Leonore, is a contributor to the McCain campaign.

(FactCheck.org, which is nonpartisan, also receives funding from the Annenberg Foundation. But we are in no way connected to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which finished its work long before we came into being in late 2003.)

For full details, please read on to our Analysis section.

Analysis

Sen. John McCain has dialed up his attacks on Sen. Barack Obama’s past association with former Weather Underground activist Bill Ayers. He released a 30-second TV spot Oct. 10 claiming Obama “lied” about Ayers. A day earlier he announced a 90-second Internet ad claiming that Obama and Ayers “ran a radical education foundation together” and suggesting Obama was being untruthful.

Groundless, False, Dubious

We find McCain’s accusation that Obama “lied” to be groundless. It is true that recently released records show half a dozen or so more meetings between the two men than were previously known, but Obama never denied working with Ayers.

Other claims are seriously misleading. The education project described in the Web ad, far from being “radical,” had the support of the Republican governor and was run by a board that included prominent local leaders, including one Republican who has donated $1,500 to McCain’s campaign this year. The project is described by Education Week as reflecting “mainstream thinking” about school reform.

Despite the newly released records, there’s still no evidence of a deep or strong “friendship” with Ayers, a former radical anti-war protester whose actions in the 1960s and ’70s Obama has called “detestable” and “despicable.”

Even the description of Ayers as a “terrorist” is a matter of interpretation. Setting off bombs can fairly be described as terrorism even when they are intended to cause only property damage, which is what Ayers has admitted doing in his youth. But for nearly three decades since, Ayers has lived the relatively quiet life of an educator. It would be correct to call him a “former terrorist,” and an “unapologetic” one at that. But if McCain means the word “terrorist” to invoke images of 9/11, he’s being misleading; Ayers is no Osama bin Laden now, and never was.
