can u help me with two math problems :

1)the ages of darcy and chris total 25 years. darcy’s age plus twice chris’s age is 43. find their ages.
2)a vending machine only takes only quarters and dollars. there are 31 coins with a value of $20.50. how many quarters and how many dollars are there?
(dollars=loonies)

these questions have to be answered with formulas not guessing

let chris age = C

D+C=25 (1)
D+2C=43 (2)

from (1) D=25-C
sub into (2) 25-C+2C=43
therefore C=18
sub into (1) D+18=25
therefore D=7

let darcys age = D let chris age = C D+C=25 (1) D+2C=43 (2) from (1) D=25-C sub into (2) 25-C+2C=43 therefore C=18 sub into (1) D+18=25 therefore D=7

What pickle81 did is totally right for the first one, he gave you all the formulas and such.

and screech is right for the second one:
.25x + 31-x = 20.50 is the second one where x= quarters which is 14

.25x+31-x=20.50
-.75x=20.50-31
-.75x=-10.5
x=14
