life help: I feel bad about myself, for some reason I can’t seem to shift it. - Help.com

I feel bad about myself, for some reason I can’t seem to shift it.

I don’t want to be a miserable person, i want to be happy and enjoy life but i dont know how. I’m wondering if perhaps i don’t deserve it. Perhaps im not a good person, though i strive so hard to be one. does anyone know how i can change things?

If anything negative happened towards you, just learn from past dissapointments. Just find what you want to do, work for it, and find different ways to accomplish your goals. And if you can, make many goals and not just one, gives you plenty to do. If you can’t think of anything, then it’s your goal to make a goal.

hypnosis is good for some people… sounds silly but paul mckenna does a ‘change your life in 7 days’ cd that you listen to for about 20 mins a day and it could help… worth giving a go… good luck

Alma 38: 8

And it came to pass that I was three days and three nights in the most bitter pain and anguish of soul; and never, until I did cry out unto the Lord Jesus Christ for mercy, did I receive a remission of my sins. But behold, I did cry unto him and I did find peace to my soul.

GEt out there, speak to people and you’ll find that you’re not the only one, then you’ll find you’ve made a connection and that you start caring about something/one else. Take it one step at a time and congratulate yourself for progress however little. REspect yourself and others, we all deserve an equal crack at life, every opinion counts and we don’t all have to be the same. You matter, you are a piece of the great jigsaw puzzle of life, we all need each other, although when you’re vulnerable it’s best to surround yourself with people who make you feel good. If you’re wondering whether you’re a good person then it means that you care and you’ve just answered your own question. That caring will spur you on to become a better person - you may never feel that you’re good enough… Good luck

I just typed in “I feel bad about myself” because I kind of am, myself. But in answer to your question - have you ever read the “Desiderata”? It is one thing that always inspires me and lifts me out of depression a bit. It reads as follows:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
