I have a stereo that came with 3 extra speakers, a left, right, and center.

Can i hook them up to my television and get surround sound?

And for true surround sound you need the two rear speakers as well.

Simple answer is no. The majority of television sets only have the capability of putting out 2 channels. They may have circuitry that produces the effect of surround sound which is simply adding a reverb effect to the background sound. Does the stereo have a third channel output signal? If so you can input the stereo from the tv and have the stereo divide it up into your three speakers.

If not, there is a way to wire all three speakers so you have somewhat of a center channel but it will not be true surround sound.
