iTunes problem

I have this recurring problem with iTunes on Windows XP.

iTunes determines that its database file iTunes Library.itl
is “damaged.” This occurs when I launch iTunes.

When this happens, iTunes restores a previous state, apparently from
the file iTunes Music Library.xml. This has several problems. First,
the restore operation is quite slow (10 minutes to fully restore). But what really gives me grief is
that after the event, a lot of my personal customizations, including settings, are permanently gone.
My playlists vanish and the genius featured is turned off and deleted. The play counts of my mp3 files are incorrect.

This is extremely inconvenient for me. I have no idea why this happens.

Anyone know a way to fix this?

I know you people are trying to help and I realize it’s my fault for not writing on my original post but…

Do you really think I’m that stupid enough to not try those methods? I’ve been sending Apple a mail a day and I’ve reinstalled iTunes like 50 times already. And before anyone becomes a wise-crack; Yes I’ve searched Google already.

Relax, I’m sure no one thinks you’re unusually stupid or anything. Someone might actually have the answer to your problem but would prefer not to trip your hair-trigger temper and suffer your sarcasm and wrath.
