IS ANYONE GOOD AT COMPOSING MELODIES TO GO ALONG WITH LYRICS?

I am completely hopeless. everytime i feel like i have some good lyrics i can’t come up with the right melody, and if i have a melody, i can’t come up with lyrics! so frustrating.

I usually write both at the same time.
If you have a good set of lyrics, but no melody, the best place to start is sorting out the rhythm of the words. From there you can try out different phrasings and notes.

Though honestly sometimes its best to just wait for a splash of inspiration. I wrote a poem in fifth grade that I hadn’t been able to write a melody for until my freshman year in college.

It’s a brilliant little song now that it’s finished, but it took a hella-long time.

Wehey. I’ve finally found the musicians corner =)

I had alot of problems with this. In all aspects. I guess the only thing that changed was my confidence. I’d just keep trying. Listen carefully to your favourite musicians and see how they form there words around the melody. It’ll come eventually.

Hope you figure it out.

haha YES music is my life- you are in the right place. my confidence is always fine when i start a song- but im a perfectionist and i go off my nut when its not just right. so i guess its my own fault. i just wish i could find someone to collaborate with; i seem to work better when i can bounce my ideas off of another creative mind. that’s a good hint about studying the music of other musicians… now if only i could choose my favorites…

i would if my computer wasn’t jenky and broken! thanks for offering! but like i said, broken comp… and its a mac too, so it does nothing i want it to. like i just tried to listen to your song (from your other post- i got it in my tags because of the music thing, i am not a creepy stalker) and it won’t let me run the player on mac. so grrrrrr. but thanx.

maybe it is just my comp. because my dad put a whole bunch of wierd stuff on here b4 i moved- hes into computers in a major way, and is totally freaked that i will get nasty pop-ups or something. so he puts about a billion spyware blasting programs on here, and then i cant work anything! even my e-mail shows up as a bunch of little white boxes now. lovely.

what a devious way to regain control! are you sure we arent related somehow?
jk. i can understand the basics of computers pretty well, but my dad is a computer science major. so im completely out of my depth. (i did not inherit the math-gene.)
and i didnt grow up with my dad (thank GOD! i would be an shy, introverted, anxious, long-sleeved-turtleneck-wearing, following-the-rules-without-question kind of girl by now if i had. i probably wouldnt even LIKE myself)
i grew up with my mom, but then she kicked me out so i spent the summer with my dad until i could find my own place.
