They have this tool in photoshop called the crop tool. It looks like an x on the tool bar. Click on it, click on the side of what you want to retain in the picture, drag it around the object you want to retain, and return to the point where you clicked and click again. It should now be highlighted. Now go to the file bar and go to select…then click deselect. Then hit delete on your key board.

I know what i’ve just written does not make any sense, but keep trying. also what i just explained is in Adobe Photoshop…not Photoshop Elements. It might be easier in Elements.
