Holiday season is coming fast.

I am in the middle of watching “what would jesus buy”, a documentary about reverend billy’s church of stop shopping. And I must say although, kinda strange and not really my cup of tea… the message is pretty right on. So basically I guess idea for thought… have we become too much of a consumer nation? Is that a bad thing, or does it not matter? Does this economic crisis change anyone’s opinion on it? And if so, will you do anything different this season?

I’m thinking about making my presents. Or giving things people need rather than want.
Hand woven basket full of energy saving light bulbs anyone?

I’m gonna walk around outside Plymouth Meeting Mall on Black Friday,
holding a sign that says:

SPEND

time with those you love

Helpers, here is a way to help with cancer research and do some holiday shopping at the same time.

Double good feelings. Would Jesus approve?

I am all for that, but I see no harm in helping ourselves. I was answering Rememberpoe’s question. Maybe I should not have addressed the helpers. I just got so excited about the possibility of doing something different this year, and it was right after I read a post from the mother of a child who has cancer.

My walking around the mall is not really about people spending money.
It’s just a reminder what the holidays are really about.
Sure you can spend your money buying gifts, but remember to spend time
with those you care about also. The time you spend with them is the real
gift.
I just wanna remind people they should go visit that great aunt in a nursing
home, or drop that stupid grudge with they’re sibling, or look up an old
friend they havn’t seen in many many years.
Maybe even dare to help out a stranger?
The holidays are much more than wrapping paper & twinkling lights.
Smiles are all I want for the holidays.
