if you’re not into complimenting her outfit you could always say “great job on that last test” or something about how she always gets her homework in, or how her notebook is so organized
stuff like this shows that you care about more than the superficial clothes, hair, jewelry… (that stuffs fine) but sometimes girls like to be complimented on their brains rather than their good looks
