If I was a 172 pounds, I would be underweight because I have a large body frame. A common tool to determine whether or not you weight is healthy is the BMI, Body Mass Index:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mas…

This tool works for most body types. You may experience problems with this index if you are very athletic.

One thing you can do too make sure you are staying healthy and getting the nutrition you need is to make a meal plan. I am 6′1″ I really am never hungry but I make sure I am getting good nutrition and at least 2000 calories a day. You should sit down and grab a piece of paper and plan your meals including snacks for the next week, this is a good way too make sure you are not starving yourself (just make sure you eat what you plan too)

This can also be good for grocery shopping as you can plan what you need too buy for the next week or so.

How tall are you? I would say 172 pounds sounds like a good wieght. If you start eating less your stomach will shrink and you start filling up with less food. If you continue to drop pounds that is becoming unhealthy then you should seek help. If you are thinking about calories all the time just think about this. I use to wiegh 240 pounds and in the last 4 months I dropped down to 190 with a good diet. I road my bike and tread mill almost everyday to drop the weight. I never counted calories, but just ate healthy.

1. Stay away from fast food, soft drinks, and junk food!
2. I eat oat meal with two slices of bread in the morning. I eat tuna fish sandwhich on whole wheat bread with vegis for lunch. I eat ( Fish as well ) chicken, brown & wild rice for dinner with veg. I throw in just some fat for the body because you do need some, which you can get from many kinds of meats. Stick with a diet like that and you will not have to worry about calories again. Start up a good carido for yourself as well for your heart health, but just limit to 10 or 15 minutes a day. When I started dropping pounds my wife and other people were saying I was going to be sack and bones, but I am not feeding into that. More power to you on staying in shape and healthy, but if you are not sure just contact a doctor and find out just were you stand for sure with your health. This way if anyone says negative things about your weight you can say I have a doctor and is being watched. Take care and stay healthy my friend!

I see you modified your post with your height. If I was 172 pounds at 5′2″, I would not be concerned with anorexia. However, I would be careful that the changes to my diet do not develop into an eating disorder.

I think so long as you are healthy and active you should not be worrying about your weight. I suspect you could be slipping into an anorexic way of thinking and am concerned. 172 is not bad at all for your height. Health is what is important, not appearance! If you starve yourself and worry it is not good for you at all, in fact it is much more dangerous and unhealthy than being a few pounds over weight. What I would like to know is what is going on in your life currently that has you worrying. I would talk to your doctor right away and not only find out what they think about your weight but also get some counseling before things have the potential to get dangerous. Please do that. You know yourself better than anyone and if you are worried, then I am worried.

Going hungry is not a good thing. So if something inside you is saying being hungry is good, I would say that could be a problem. I do not know much about eating disorder but I do know making yourself go hungry is not healthy.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to look better and exercising and eating healthy. Those are all good things, but when you do it in excess, that is when it can become a problem.

Tell us a little be about yourself.

Well just be careful ok? Don’t let it get out of control. If you feel it’s taking over your thoughts, talk to someone.

Bec, now that I know it is you. Let me ask you. Do you think you may be having a little anxiety about this. That you are worrying about something that may not a problem?

Having anxiety causes you to worry about thing that do not need to be worried about. It makes it hard to know when something is worth worrying about. You know what I mean.

I think the anxiety can bring on eating disorders by causing to worry about your weight more then you need to.

Where do you think you are with this right now.

Bec, I would talk to the doctor about it. I do not know if you have a eating disorder, but something is not right. You are not eating heathy and you are scared about eating. Those sound like red flags to me.

Be happy about going to the doctor, not sad. Most importantly, be honest with your doctor, don’t try and make it seem better then it is. I know a lot of people do that, they get in there and then don’t say all the things they need to. Maybe, you can make a list and write down all your concerns so you can look at it if your mind goes blank.

Let me know how it goes.
