life help: i studied communications. - Help.com

i studied communications.

basically had my life planned out as i was sure that advertising was my thing. now after 5 (short period) jobs i decided to pull myself out of the huge advertising gig and start fresh, where that is the problem. i am working part time as a permanent high school sub and then in merrill lynch as an assistant. i dont even know what i want to do in life since what i thought would be my passion (advertising) is now gone and im am completly lost with no path to choose. HELP!

it’s ok to be lost sometimes…a friend of mine studied communications and hated it by the time he was finished also…but once you’ve got a degree in anything it doesn’t matter…my sister studies biology and ended up in a career in computers!! anything is possible so let go of the stress and free your mind to thinking possitivly and the answers will come to ya..:)

You should do 2 tests and they might help you go in the right direction (they cost money to do them but they are good)

1.
EQ-I test also called Emotional Inteligence test this tells you a lot about yourself

2.
Career Aptitude tests (self explanatory)

Read the book “Do What You Are” (in Career section at Books a Million or on Amazon.com). It has a personality assessment that helps you look at jobs/careers based on the way you deal with life. There’s a section that that looks at your personality type, and shows you the jobs that match your personality type within the different fields. It pegged me and my teenage son extremely well, as well as a good friend and her husband. It’s definitely worth your time.
