What part of speech is the word “the”.

Serious question. I googled but couldn’t find a direct answer. Thanks.

UPDATE — NEVER MIND!

Relying on the internet and google has clearly eroded part of my brain. I finally remembered there’s this book called a “dictionary”, and this magical book has a list of words, and it not only defines the meanings of the words, but also indicates their parts of speech.

So — “the” is an “article”.
