Does anyone know where to get emergency help with electric, rent and or phone bills in Jacksonville, NC.?

Due to an illness I am unable to work, I have exhausted all options as far as applying for Social Security and Disability. The only help I have found here in Jacksonville is food stamps. I am on the verge of having utillities being turned off and being evicted. Can anyone please help?

I am not sure, I tried looking up some sources. I would say, in really hard times, you need to do some foot work. Two things I would give a shot. I would look into the phone book and find any non profit, or community organizations that you think can either help you, or lead you to someone that may be able to help you. Give them a call and just see if they can help or if they can put you in the right direction of where to look or who to ask, explain to them your situation.

I do not know what faith, if any you follow, but I would ask someone within the churches near you. They sometimes have people or organizations they know that can provide some aid..even if it is not financial, it is something…they too may be able to point you in the right direction, because chances are they have helped others in a similar situation.

It is a shame really, finding the information for help now-a-days can be very difficult, so I think starting by just calling organizations and talking to people can maybe get you somewhere. The organizations may try to throw the soc. security and such on you, but if you get to a more personal contact..like from a church or local community outreach program, you may get something less formal that you may not have known ever exsisted. Just need to contact people and don’t stop until you get a lead… the eviction.. should be able to taken care of… I mean I just read i think it was yesterday that the officials have called off all evictions for the time being.

You just need to hunt down the answers.. best way to do that is reach out to anyone and everyone to get them.

It is just about impossible to get help in this town, I do get food stamps but with no minor children there is nothing else I qualify for. I am going to try every church and other organazations in this area, but once a long time ago I needed help and couldn’t get any.

Well you can only hope that with the economy now, and how alot of people are suffering than before, that maybe there is some new help out there. Just don’t give up…even if you need to find and group up with people in a similar situation to yours, just for moral support. Anything in these times can help.

I am in the same situation as you or was… until I lost my house… but, since then I have found there are several resources for you. Most utilities provide a discount to people who are on food stamps. Ask. Also, several organizations will help with keeping your home. There are even grants.gov that involve housing. Act now before you are out. search the internet. I will look back and see if there are any sites that I can direct you to. Illness Sucks!

You can go to the local Goodwill center, they will help you find a job and/or train you. You can also try your luck at online charities like Modest Needs, people may send donations, if your requirement is genuine. From http://www.laodn.org/
