Who else here likes archery

Is like super fun I been playing it in pe and I really do enjoy it but at school all the arrows are no longer usable and I don’t believe my coach will be able get some more because we are not really supposed to practice archery we are also not aloud to play a couple of sports like doge ball and basically all the fun stuff(because the school system is all retarded ) for this reason I been thinking about buying a bow and such

what type of bow do you think is best and what type of arrows should I use

I love archery! I hardly get to do it though. You should get a compound bow with simple arrows, not the sharp tips, since you’ll dull them unless you hunt with them. It’s really fun though!!

Shop for used. I got a good compound bow used a few years ago for around $150. 70lb pull, excellent for hunting. If you want a wooden one and are looking for a challenge, buy a recurve bow with no sites (instinctive shooting). More like old times! I used to hunt with one of those! Never got anything with it though! lol

If you have sights it is not so hard. If you have no sights and shoot by estimation (sometimes referred to as instinctive shooting) Then that is a real challenge.

If you love archery, have time to practice lots, and love a challenge, I would suggest you try it.

Also, recurves and straight bows have the full pressure of the draw the whole time you hold them drawn. A compound bow is designed to relieve some of the pressure at full draw.

Start simple, and work your way up.

A good 35lb recurve is great for a beginner, and can be fairly cheap -$100.00 will buy a good one. Buy a good string, and a stringer, too. It saves time, effort and prevents injuries.

Invest in some good arrows when you can -a dozen carbon shafts will last years, and the tips can be changed to suit the occasion. Until then, a half-dozen straight wooden shafts with plastic fletches will be good enough for practise, but they will wear out quick, get broken, become splintery, and lose their ability to fly straight. So buy the good ones when you can.

A good target is a must. Start simple with a bale of straw and an old blanket, but move up to something more suitable when you can. The ones with multiple layers work the best, and won’t ruin your expensive arrows.

Other accesories as you can or as you must. If you’re hitting your arm all the time, you won’t shoot much -you need an arm guard, but also to break the habit, so learn to do it right and avoid a lot of equipment that is only needed to correct bad form.
