I guess in a manner of speaking there is… there is a duality, we have those external and internal influences. There’s the hidden man and the one we allow others to see.

Ego= our genuine self
Alter Ego= the self we battle to cover up, darker with more primeval instincts
Super ego= the self we try to show off as much as possible

The self we usually display is a mix of ego and super ego everyday. Read Lord of the Flies, it has different characters who at different times in the book show these different egos.

Well, if you really want to get into it perhaps you should read Transactional Analysis by Dr Eric Berne.
It’s pretty interesting and when you really think about it, there’s quite a bit of interesting and compelling thought.

There definitely are. Especially if you take a Jungian perspective on personality. We all express minor and major personality types. MBTI is based on Jungian personality theory. You might be interested in this: www.humanmetrics.com. For example, sometimes an extravert can be introverted. When one is, he is expressing his minor personality type. Usually, he expresses his major trait, of extraversion.

Another good book would be…. Ian Stewart, Vann Joines - TA Today: A New Introduction to Transactional Analysis

There are two internal parts to us. I do knot know how to explain it though. It is not what others are saying. It is the mind(the part of you that thinks) the other is the soul, the part of you that can listen to your thoughts. Does that makes since. I do not know any other way to word it.

Like when people meditate, they stop there thoughts. They quiet their mind. So the part of you that is still there is this awareness without thought.

I do not know how to explain it. Sorry if I just made it more confusing for you.

The book the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a good book to understand this.
