music help: I need to learn more about music. - Help.com

I need to learn more about music.

Every thing! From playing instruments to making songs and even starting up a band! I know the basics in playing the guitar, but I think that is not enough.

KNowing the basics of the guitar is good. But keep practicing. You’ll never learn squat without practice. You want to learn more. Pick up additional instruments as well. The bass guitar will be an easy transition from the guitar.

The best way to learn about music is to listen to it. Pick what you want to play and just study up on the experts, you know? You can pick up a lot of cool riffs and things from other players that you can incorporate into your own playing. If you want to get into the nitty gritty of it, do some theory work with scales and stuff, because that helps a lot writing songs and creative stuff like that.

There are musicians who learn only the tab and do fine. But studying things like the “Circle Of Fifths” is also good. Understanding Keys and what they are meant to do will be a great thing for you to learn. If your motivated (which you sound as if you are) Just go to a music store and ask someone what books they have to recommend to you. There are also posters you can hang in your room with key signatures and the circle of fifths that you can work from.

Start off really basic. Do you know all the notes on the neck of the guitar? If not, learn. You ,may not be interested much in learning theory but it helps to know a bit and it means you can relate to other musicians easier.
