Help needs email alerts for more stuff.
I’m realizing Help could really use email alerts for a few things. New fans, new invites, new shouts (shouts definitely). Notices is already covered by the reply update emails.
Digest options would be great too.
Just sayin’ :)

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
Are you looking for answers about problems with your AOL service?
I’d like to recommend that you ask AOL directly since they are best suited to help you.

Help needs alot of things, I think e-mail alerts for other things is a good idea but I think there are more important things that need to happen in this place first.
But I think it all goes on the “never gonna happen” list like everything else.
Help needs a lot of help with a lot things that we all could help with. I wonder if help is willing to be helped? Do you want to help?
I’ve thought about trying to get back into the Help project, but I’m having too much fun making games for right now :)

SAVE US please come back and SAVE US!!
I definitely agree with notices for shouts and invites. If we did have these new notifications, would the users be able to choose which alerts to get or would there just be two options: notifications or no notifications?

Are you able to change codes from where you are sitting? If so I know of a change to one of the helpbots that would be apreciated
I never really liked the email alert system, alerting me over a new notice clogged up my email fast before I disabled it.
If it was up to me, you’ve have an “Email Preferences” tab that looked like

genius!
but we do need a lot of changes.
the mods seem to be ok now, before it was pretty bad with all the troll, but we killed off most of them.
now we need some technical changes to make it easier to move around here.
not the highest of priorities in the world, but, they could really help help.com
To be clear, while I’ve been allowed to retain the Admin markings, I’m not actually in charge of anything, a member of the official staff, or able to affect any changes. Just to be clear.

Well, your the closest guy to Cnet we have, even if you have no official power.

We were told that before I think I kind of forget, but say now a troll comes here, are you able to ban the person (just out of curiosity)

i sorta caught that, i mean, would you really make a thread like this if you personally could change it?
but, like Ikari said, you are our only hope in connecting with the others and throwing down some new stuff.
Actually, I have no idea who at CNET/CBS is actually responsible for the site anymore. :|

Technically, yes I could. However, I don’t use any of my admin privileges.
Yourabi, you might know him better as Yousef is now in charge, and oh cool as to your reply to me.

if you were to use them would you get beef?

Well yes because he would want to know our opinions on it.

So, you know who all the anons are…
i mean they are your powas. if a guy came on here and called everyone different profanity words and cursing and stuff, you would simply report it like everyone else?

but he would have at least been more; “how do you feel about *blank*?”
ITT he is simply stating that it is needed.

well in theory, *technically* he is a normal user now
i think anyway
he should be admin though
either way, it is good to hear from an admin again, have not really heard from any recently
Jeff, maybe you might ask for it to be against TOS to give proxy’s to people trying to get into websites during school time.

yes, i have seen so many of those!
i laugh so hard when it is some guy who can’t even spell proxy. it’s all the more reason to pay attention in school

Ok these are my little grumbles lol…. One is the shout box it would be nice if there was an update to it, which would stop you shouting yourself, I know there’s a lot of us that do it, not a biggy but nice if it were a bit different.
The other one is it would be nice if you could get a one on one conversation in private, if someone has problems, they don’t always want to “Air their dirty laundry” in a public, everything is open on here even shouts are not private everyone can see them. I see the reason maybe to stop the pervs amongst us that prey on young girls, Ive seen all that before, but an option to chat in private may be useful, and then maybe a means to report any bad behavior.
Just a thought :-)

Jeff has said thousands of times before that the whole private thing would be bad and i think Yousef agrees
blockquote>Sasha - you can open your email to anyone - all you have to do is put them on your friends list. This means you dont have to publish your contact details. - Mas Also the anon function is there for the specific reason that established users can ask for help without revealing themselves. - Mas /blockquote>
also sometimes its useful to shout yourself

I agree. I hate it when I shout myself, makes me feel like an idiot, and I don’t see why we can’t just have private messages like other sites. I don’t really like giving out my e-mail address to people on websites, but it also bugs me that my converations are public. It could be a little stalkerish.
Mas1st wrote:

We are getting a new site? Im so behind in the talk lately… crap.
Email alearts would be cool, expecially if you are one to check email first when you hop on the web. Me personally, I dont need them, so the option to turn them off is awsome to me.
PS, Its cool to meet an admin for the first time. :D! Hi! lol!

TOTALLY AGREE! I hate shouting myself too, its embarassing! Even when I have been here over 3 months… its still… well… makes me feel like a total noob. lol!
The reason we can shout ourselves is so we can just have people talk in one shoutbox, not fill up all of them, have to switch between shoutboxes…
But who checks other people’s shoutboxes for messages? That doesn’t make any sense.
Laina1312 wrote:

The web designer thought people would just use a shoutbox to keep the conversation in one place, it just never happened.

which is why the shouttrail was invented
