Love help: This makes no sense to me right now. - Help.com

This makes no sense to me right now.

I was talking to someone about how I wanted to adopt a child from a third world country today, and they told me that that was a stupid idea and that it would be better to adopt someone from my own country (somewhere in North America), than to adopt someone less fortunate than us.

This really made no sense to me…?? I’m a religious person and in the bible it tells us that we shouldn’t be selfish, doesn’t it? Or am I just making that up?

I made this point to the person I was arguing with and they said that being SELFLESS is giving someone the right of way, or letting people with less groceries get in front of the line in front of you…

Seriously? Is that what selfless is?

That really makes no sense AT ALL to me. I’m not sure whether it is smarts that make you want to adopt a child, or just love.

Right now I’m just thinking it’s people who are extremely that are able to adopt people, which makes me really angry.

I for one have no reason why I shouldn’t adopt a child. So why are people telling me different?

Shipping children overseas emits harmful hydrocarbons and exhaust into the air. The green choice would be to adopt locally.

i think maybe they were meaning that there are so many children that are in need of adoption anywhere, it don’t think it matters whether they are “third world” or not.

it may be easier to adopt here.

I think it’s a brilliant idea. (I’m Christian too, but it’s not because of that). Some of the things I see on television just wrench my heart in despair leaving me feeling quite helpless, seeing the extent of need out there. We have a lot in our world and some have next to nothing.

I love this quote from Mother Teresa: If you can’t feed a hundred people then just feed one.

If you’re able to help anybody have a better chance, or brighten their day just a little - then that’s angelic for them!

What difference does it make where the adopted child comes from?
A child in need is a child in need!
Don’t pay attention to people who say silly things to you!

I think you idea is selfless and loving, and there should be more people like you.
Especially in a world that is grossly over-populated!

It doesn’t make a difference where the child is from.

Are the folks critiquing you xenophobic (afraid of those who don’t look, think, act like them)? Is that what you are saying on your note?

Unfortunately there are millions of children in need, I hope you are able to help one of them.
