So discounting the option of university i Know i need to get a job but what job?i have no clue where to even start!i have looked on job sites, and jobs they seem to be offering are ones where by they ask for experience, or managerial- i have no experience as ive only just left college so where do i start!! at same time i dont want to get myself into a dead end job with low levels of responsibility and where im doing same tasks everyday- i dont no how to start my career path and along which line, im so lost.

There is an alternative option to consider.

Most Universities offer flexible choice degrees where you can try out a subject you are not sure about but can switch after a term or even after two or three… or you could do a part time course which you combine with work? Lots of undergraduates are taking that option and getting the best of both worlds.. studying half the time and working the rest. Many degree courses offer you a wide range of modules to select from. So whilst you might be interested in Zoology, you can combine it with some modules in French or Business Studies or even Fashion… shop around and find the Universtity/College that offers you greatest flexibility.

If a full degree isn’t your thing, have a look at some of the diplomas on offer. Some can be added to in the future with others to make up a degree.

Courses are very flexible these days. Have a talk with your careers adviser and get fishing on the University and College websites for ideas.

One thing to bear in mind if you take a gap from studying.. it is always much, much harder to get back into it again afterwards.

Whatever you study will not be a “waste”. The finance arrangements for students entering this year are much much better than they were previously so you may find that money is not so much of an issue. Check out what you can get in the way of loans (which you pay back ) income-based grants (which you don’t.. available to those on no/low incomes) and bursaries (awards for good A level grades or getting good marks in your first assessments at college).

i would suggest HTTP://WWW.MONSTER.COM/ . it is an excellent site to get started. you can use the Career Advice section. it has a lot of answers to questions you may have to getting into the work force. there are also tests you can take to find out what type of job best fits your personality. what can it hurt to look at the site? good luck.

Monster, Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals also are becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired. You should also take a look at what you really enjoy doing. I took a couple years off before going to college so i could see what I really enjoyed doing. I found out I really liked working in TV business, so I went to a Tech school instead of a university, now I work full-time and love my job, If I hadn’t taken those years to find out what made me happy I might still be delivering pizzas.
