Phillips dvd player wont get past the trailers?

My dad got a phillips dvp5990 and when we tried playing the move ‘Catacombs’ it would only play the trailers and then once they were over, loop right back to them. We tried everything we know of… unlocking, making sure it wasnt on repeat, hitting the menu button, skipping the previews, and etc. We even called customer service and they were no help, only blamed it on the dvd but I know it cant ethe dvd because it works fine in my slim PS2. Though it also wont work in the other phillips dvd player in the house X_X…. The dvd brand is dolby which is supported by the player. Any help would be great before we bring this damned thing back. Thanks!
