Start small, I used to be very shy and have no self confindence at all and slowely I came out of my shell and remind myself that people that dont know me don’t matter, why should I care what they think, we all have our good and bad points. Why is your self confidence so low? You should try and make yourself do something that you don’t enjoy doing. Like I could never take clothes back to a shop if it was damaged, So I went ahead and done it one day and it was not as bad as I thought i would be. If you can work out why you have no self confidence that will help to know how to fix it.

Well you need to like yourself at first. You have to appreciate yourself and stand to the things you do, even if you did them wrong.
It will take its time but you will gather the courage with time when you try over again even after you self confidence shrunk back because of a failure, let it grow twice when you do something right.

Try to do things you didnt trust, until you really make it and then be proud of yourself.
And well joining a club or something like this could be good too, where you can show what you can, and have the change to talk with people about things you like, you wont have to think much about something to talk about.

Hope that helps, good luck and just try!

Have a look on YouTube for some self esteem and confidence-boosting exercises. Here’s something to start you off:

Type phrases like self-confidence training into search.

I found being as outrageous as possible helped - initially I acted like a complete nutter to cover up the fact that I had no self confidence, and over time my confidence grew. Drama is also a good confidence booster.

Great post. I’ve tried to happy affirmations, but didn’t work for me. The following did.

1. Succeed. Define some small goals and achieve them.
2. Make something. You want to be able to look around and see something you’ve made.
3. Have a back up plan. You can then go in boots and all.
4. Stop pretending. Stop hanging around people that you have to pretend for, and find people who accept you for who you are. Tough one.
5. Gain a little bit more independence. No matter where you at, from learning to get yourself a glass of water, getting a push bike, a job for your own money, learning to cook, moving out, running you own international project.
6. Learn a physical skill. Even going for a walk every day. If you body can do stuff, you can be confident in that. If you can add piano, or juggling, or martial arts, dance, basketball…
7. Learn to accept that failure is a part of life. Just because you’ve failed doesn’t make you a failure. Sounds kitch, but pick any person you look up too, and they will have failed something.
8. Find out out whats squashing you self confidence and remove it. Tough.
9. Focus on what you CAN do. Not what on what others can do, or what you can’t do. Acknowledge them, but do focus on them.

and my personal favorite…

10. A belly full of healthy food that you made.

Love to hear what you think…

!!!

All of these answers are great!
I really like your list, chunky.

And I like the idea about being outrageous…I’ll try to!I’m really shy, and don’t talk much at all..so maybe that’ll push me into being more social :)

AND my boyfriend loves cooking..I like to cook sweets, like cookies and cake and stuff..but I’d really like to make him dinner, something really good and homemade :) Any suggestions on something that might be easy to make, but pretty impressive? I’ve never really ever made any *real* food. He’d be so surprised!

Casserole, but it takes a couple of hours, I love making spagette bologgnese with loads of garlic bread. I normally google recipies or a nice roast dinner, it’s much easier than people think

Hmm…that might be a good idea!:) I don’t mind at all if it takes awhile to make. Another thing I am concerned about is seasoning the stuff I make..but I guess that comes with experience.

Cooking is great, you can travel the world each night. Everyone got to eat, and it brings people together.

Don’t mind if your first is a flop, just learn from it and keep going. If you haven’t cooked much before you might want to try cooking a practice on for yourself, or you can be confident and just have a go. If you can fail with confidence and a laugh, you’re there.

My b/f is pretty silly anyway, so if I do mess it up, I’m sure we’ll end up laughing about it. I just want to do something really nice for him, and I think it would help me out too..we’ve been alittle distant with each other lately (I’ve been crazy stressed with a new job and driving all over the place, and he’s got some issues at his work he’s stressed about), but something kind of clicked again yesterday, and I want to start doing things that will make us really close again.

A partner you click with, can share a laugh with, and a home cooked meal. Life doesn’t get too much better than that.

Another for the list. A pleased and loving partner. Can’t be everything, but sure can help.

it is nice to see something like this i am in my teenage years and struggle with self esteem and sometimes find days that i have to battle with myself to get through the day some days i feel like i don’t have the strength to go on i don’t have many real friends that will stick by me but i love drama i do get picked on for doing it but i really love it but the problem is i have told i have a talent for acting , but i don’t have enough confidence to pursue it , so seeing this and the advice that is given is a boost thank you.

Yay!!! I’m really happy about all the responses :) I’m making that dinner this Saturday. I’m excited. It’ll be fun times! (hopefully) ^_^

And zacrevel: They may be dumb and pick on you now for drama, but they’re probably just wishing they had the guts to do something so exciting and interesting! Don’t let that kind of talent get wasted away. Instead, use it to it’s fullest..and you won’t even notice the small minds that have some unjustified problem with it. You’re lucky! :)

Well, yesterday I made an Italian casserole! :) He kept coming in the kitchen, and opened some cans for me (because he noticed I was having a little trouble with the canopener~it wasn’t the electric kind and it kept getting stuck..haha) And it was a recipe that he knew, so he did add a touch of something. But I did all the work other than those two things. He seemed pretty happy about it and he ate two huge dishes.
I think it was best for me to do something he knew first, and something that was kind of easy..& since this is my first real dish ever..I knew I might need a little help. I think next time I’ll be confident enough to use my a recipe that my mother knows for something really good. But it was really fun, I’m definitely going to try cooking a little more often!
