house help: so i’ve been paying rent since i was 15, started at 300 a month and went to 700 a month. - Help.com

so i’ve been paying rent since i was 15, started at 300 a month and went to 700 a month.

and its to my parents. well they rent, and i heard it was illegal for them to do that. and now he’s only charging me 120 a month, but he’s saying all the stuff is his and everything thats in that house is his, and not abiding by anything that he should be if im paying to live in this room. also he’s decided i can’t drive the car i paid for cuz he wont give me the title. so its still under his name. even tho it is technically mine… can i take him to court… and win… as of the moment im completly broke. and i need to move out, and i can’t move out if im stil paying rent utilities insurance and everythign else.

you could take him to court - with all the documents you can come up with to prove that you have paid rent/car. You maybe able to win the car back, as for the rent money? not sure.

Take him to court! I’m not quite sure how, but I’m sure there’s a way!

see without docs’ - I don’t know how the court will handle the matter. It could be a thing where they would suggest family counseling or something. But its worth a try…or you keep all the money and get out. See if a friend will let you stay with them a while.

Bodily harm- bad idea.

Then you have to worry about them sueing you or worse…
Then you have no right to any of the money you have been illegally paying them.

yea. that is a bad idea on the bodily harm thing. If you can’t get the rent money back in court…let that go. Try to get the car back - start fresh you know. With you gone, they won’t have extra rent money.
