I have not been able to burn music from a CD to my drive.
I can watch movies and play music from my portable hard drive, but every time I put in a CD I get an error that it can not be read cause it is dirty. Can anyone HELP?

Not being condescending, but it might not have the capability.
what does it say on the cover (flip down lid) of your CD drive?
I bought a HP last year it is an ‘AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.20GHz; 3.00 GB memory, running Vista Home Premium, with a system rating of a 5.2 (recently checked). I was running Vista Ultimate 64bit and switched back to 32bit, but have not Upgraded back to Ultimate for no reason. I have not had any problems running either OS. I just added more storage for music downloads in a menu I found, but that was not the problem. It does not make sense to me.
There should be a little symbol on the front of the drive, if you can communicate what the picture is maybe we can tell you if the drive burns cd’s.
for instance, does it have RW on the lid?
I wanted an AMD, in Acer. ended up with Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-core 2.4GHz 3GB RAM
my rating is 5.4 :P
lightscribe DVD Super Multi Drive / CD Burner, is on the lid. I am trying to rip from disk to computer. Thanks
then it should work. a CD burner should do just that.
go to my computer, right click on that drive and see if everything is shown as working properly.
also, check in your burning software for a choice of drives to set as default.
it might be the other one.
Under Hardware. Device Status: This device is working properly
Burning software? where?
have you been able to burn CDs yet?
NO! It just says error. I get a folder where it should go, no songs. The error says the disk is dirty, buy they are not at all.
have a look in your programs list for any burning software like Nero, NTI, burnatonce
check anything you’re not sure of and see if it is for burning.
it may be that there’s just no software associated with the drive yet.
I don’t have any of that I just use window media player. I’m not sure where to look. To look at my software I installed I go to install/uninstall programs in the control panel.
you don’t need to do that.
you can click on START
then again on ALL PROGRAMS
so you have used windows media player to burn CDs on this computer, with that drive, before?
Windows Features: Rip Listener, just toggled on, says will take a few moments.
ok
I don’t know that one
I only have windows and itunes, which I don’t use, it was downloaded when I got a viewer for a tutorial.
ok
wow, your computer is empty!!
lemme think if I can find you something
Ya, I did a clean install a month ago.
oops..lol hang on
download the Final Burner free
I downloaded it on mine, it’s virus free
seems to be an okay program
Thanks, I am in the process.
I tried it twice it would not download completely.
do you know how to turn off your antivirus?
some programs don’t install properly with antivirus software working
you can unplug your internet, disable the antivirus, install the software, then turn the antivirus back on and plug your internet back in
worth a try
you could also try www.burnatonce.com
I used it all the time on my XP machine, but my Vista one has good software with it
it’s very simple to use.
Thanks for your help! You got me on the right track.
I hope it works for you.
you’re welcome.
