Seventeen magazine is having a fiction contest and I want to enter.

But I need to write a short story in 500 words or less. I know I want it to be about a teenage autistic outcast. Does anyone have a good idea for a storyline using this character? Thanks!

Maybe this outcast wants to be recognized, and today is the day the school will never forget. “They said he was such a quiet kid, kept himself to himself, nobody saw it coming…” something like that.

or the kid has all the solutions the worlds mysteries… and it takes a yellow bird, a bleeding paper cut, charcoal and a glass of milk to unlock them somehow.

Maybe everyone around him always tells him to be quiet and ignores him. However, you could talk through a whole day where he sees something coming waaaaayyy in advance. It’s like Zenn’s example, except he knew someone else was going to do that. I dunno, just a thought.

Well, I want the character to be a girl. And I want it to be in first-person… I don’t know. I’m just very stuck.

well, you know, i think that if a story your gonna write is gonna be good, it has to be an inspiration to YOU, and not to ppl on the internet. what i suggest is maybe thinking of a different topic, something that excites you more. that way your soul will be in it and itll turn out better. try writing about something that somehow relates to your life in a way. that way, you’ll know everything about what your writing.

=] hope that helps!
btw, im entering the contest too!

But autism does excite me. It’s one of the things I know best about.
