sleep help: So I never sleep at night anymore. - Help.com

So I never sleep at night anymore.

My sleep schedule is incredibly off. It is 6:32 am here, and I have yet to lay my head on the pillow to go to sleep. I stay up til 3-4 am every night. Even when I have an 8am class the next day. I can barely wake up in the morning, I drag myself to classes, then sleep EVERY CHANCE I GET during the day. Today I skipped all my classes, slept in til 2, went to work til 5, skipped dinner, slept til 7, and I’ve been up since. sometimes I sleep til 10 pm, then wake up and stay up. I do not know how to get out of this routine, but I know it’s so unhealthy. Any advice? Anything will help. :/

Oh my gosh, thats sounds exactly like what happened to me. It went on for about 2 months. No matter what I did I just couldnt get to sleep at night, then I’d be tired all day long.

So, I went to the supermarket and bought a bottle of the natural herbal sedative mix for insomnia. The active ingredients are, Valerian, hops, passionflower, and chammomile. It also helps relieve mild anxiety aswell. The first night I had 3 an hour before I went to bed, it says 3 on the bottle, but I dont think I need that much, so I took 2 last night, and it was awsome.

The brand I bought is “Natures Own”, it might be an Australian thing I dont know what brands you have where you are. But anyway, I’ve taken them the last two nights and I feel so much better I don’t even know myself. I think it’s not only helping me get to sleep, but I reckon it’s giving me a more restful sleep aswell. I feel really energetic when I wake up now. It’s funny, because I’m normally a bit skeptic when it comes to natural remedies and herbal supplements. Thing is I was getting desperate, and I didnt want to go getting hooked on any prescription drugs.

Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you. Insomnia is an exhausting condition.

Also, no caffeine after mid-day. And something like no tv/computer for an hour or so before you go to sleep.

That could be my problem. I sit on the computer for hours and hours. Its what keeps me up at night.

Hey :) I am a tutor for teenagers. This is one of the BIGGEST reasons for academic failure, poor engagement and inability to succeed later.

With so much technology available 24 - 7 and no-one to regulate a routine (lets face it, what teenager; adult even, is particulalry good at doing it for themselves?)

I feel really passionately about this. Using technologies into the night - Consoles/Internet/mobile phones/dvd’s etc…prevents sleep. I know myself I can’t sleep for at least 90mins after switching off the computer.

Well done for recognising that it is a problem. Many dont!!! It will take alot of self disapline to change your habits. If you can, ask whoever lives with you at home, to remind you. Set a time for switching off and make sure you cut down on sugary and high carb foods. It will be really hard work but If you can do it, you will soon get back into a routine. Eat regulaly too.

Good luck. If gets really bad see your doctor. I know of people who have been helped by GP’S with this king of thing. Last resort perhaps though.

Reading a book instead (right like who does that anymore) is a better way to end the day anyway. Plus, it will promote dreaming.

I don’t suggest this to everyone but I can tell by your posts that your okay with this. Reading the bible is a great way to fall asleep. Its good for you, and kind of boring…. ;-)
