Due to my disease, I have lost another job.
This is bad for two reasons. First, now I have no income. Secondly, I was about a week away from having health insurance there. I was diagnosed with my disease about 7 years ago and have suffered from it my entire adult life. I don’t want you to think that I’m complaining. I’m not at all. Living a life like mine is still better than the alternative, but sometimes I wish that I didn’t have the constant pain, or could get out of bed on my bad days and do the dishes. My main problem right now is this: I have no income, no health insurance and need badly to go to the doctor. I cannot find any resources for low-income adults to receive health care if they do not have children. It isn’t that I wouldn’t like to have children. I would love to have kids, but how can I be expected to take care of a child, when I can’t take care of myself? Filing for disability isn’t an option because you have to be actively seeking treatment, which I can’t afford. I can’t get MedicAid because at my age, you have to have SS declare you disabled. I am at my wits end with this. Each day, I get more and more sick and if I can’t get better, I can’t get a new job. Does anyone have a suggestion?

what disease have you got ?
It’s called Interstitial Cystitis, more commonly known as Painful Bladder Syndrome. I was diagnosed at 19. Yes, I do have a family.
you were fired because of your disease? that’s discrimination

omg you poor thing, what can you do to alleviate that?
My family has paid my rent and a few other bills since I lost my job. Technically, I wasn’t fired because of my disease. I was fired because I missed work, which was missed due to my disease. There isn’t anything I can do to fight it, really. I wish there was something I could do, but at this point, there isn’t. That’s kinda why I’m here. hehe Hoping someone has a suggestion on what I could do to get help.
ok have you tried carbonate of soda in a glass of water
this helps with the burning
Yes, I have. But burning isn’t the problem at this point in time. It’s the pain. It’s been so bad the past few days that vicodin doesn’t even help. I’m at a loss for what to do.
im really tired now but ill speak to you on monday
in the meantime, you try to have a restful sleep :)
Thank you. That’s the goal. :) I’ll talk to you soon.
Have you tried explaining to your employer about your illness?

I tried contacting my supervisor and explaining, but she didn’t respond. That was really frustrating.

These are sites for clinical trials in your area for treatment of IC.
Sometimes clinical trials pay the patients.

Patient drug assistance:
You may want to bring some medical records. The way the economy is going right now they may be having hard times but I am sure they can still keep you on! Try it!
Thanks Cailean! Most of the sites, I already knew about. The clinical trials, I was already aware of as well. I actually have the paperwork on one of them already. :) We cover a lot of things like that in my support group. The last meeting was all about the $57 million that the NIH has allotted for IC research and the studies that are going on because of that. The ones near me that have to do with that have not started yet, though.
OK, I had similar problems when I had kidney stones. What I had to do is to avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, coffee, alcohol, chocolate and I hope you don’t smoke either. In my case simple aspirin and Tylenol made the difference, sometimes I had to take antihistamine.
What about social assistance from the state?
Surely you must qualify for some?
Can you talk to legal aid and see if they can help you?
It’s about time people in the US should get proper basic health care. It is ridiculous to hear cases like this and peoples’ lives are put on hold because of greedy money mongers. Anon’s case is so easy to treat and with proper care she would be symptom free within 2 to 4 months.
I agree. A lot of people in the US are completely against a socialistic health care system. They seem to be all about free market. In free market, there is no regulation, and people like me are left with nothing to do, but sit and wait for something to happen. If I could get some healthcare, I might be able to find a treatment that does help.
i like to know what Superpower the USA realy is ? Atom bombs around 400. Rockets to kill 20 000 at one time. Cluster bombs so nothing will grow the next 100 years 5000. Approximately to kill the Whole World 25 times over and not “ONE HEALTH SYSTEM” to cover an ordinary American Citizen.SHAME ON YOU …….BUSH-BUSH SR- AND THE OTHER ,I HAVE NEVER EVER TOUCHED TAHT GIRL -AND THE REST OF THE SUPERPOWER PRESIDENTS.Well i guess greed is good shows you were you can finish up. I think the Romans were there before you all you had to do look back in to history…
was there another i should know of???

another president?
We’ve had over 40…
was there another President who actually said something similar?
Maybe something like this can help you with your condition:
If your condition is that bad could you go on some kind of disability?
I have looked into disability, but in order to be approved, I have to be actively seeking treatment. Because I haven’t had insurance for more than 2 years, I haven’t been able to go to the doctor during that time frame. I’ve put in an application, but I’m unsure as to whether or not it will be approved. We’ll see, I guess.
Write a letter to your political representative, or better yet, to Obama. He will understand.
That’s a really good idea. Thank you Beatrice!
Let me know what happened. Good luck!
I hope the case for disability works out. The US does seem to have a talent for the stereotypical catch 22 situation sometimes. :(
