I Need Some Advice!

I’m a college student, a junior now, majoring in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, planning on going to pharmacy school, anyway, the reason for this introduction is I am concerned I am wasting away the best years of my life, I spend everyday, even weekends, in the library and even at home i’m doing schoolwork, I have no time for friends, fun, gym, i can barely keep in touch with my family, my point is, I’m doubting my choice of career and major, I know it might be worth it once i fisnish (almost 6 years from now). I guess what I am asking is anyone;s opinion who may have some experience similiar, is it a bad sign that I am having these doubts, should i reconsider my future? thanks for any help

Im in your same shoes… but im in my 2nd year. i do find myself home alot, right now i should be writting an essay but i been home all day havent bearly seen any sunlight bc i was busy doing my homework, so my mind started to drift. I think to myself that its too much and sometimes i just wanna give up and go back to my regular old life. You kno back to my friends and time with the family. Then i think twice and in the long run when im done school many yrs from now i kno ill look back and tell myself to keep goin because this is what i wanna do. I advise you do the same just put some thought into it decide if this is what you really want and if it is dont give up. if you do, later in the fulture you will always wonder what it would be like if u had never changed your proffesion. Your true friends and your family will always be there.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for. Yes it will pay off in the end. However you need to give yourself some time for you. Sounds like your burnt out… Can you take 20min. a day just for you? Refocus and exercise or do something other then study. A social life is very much needed to stay grounded. (1) day a week ,put aside for you is crucial. Only you know if this is your best career course of study. What other options do you have in mind?

Congratulations on what you have accomplished thus far. You should feel proud. For your own sanity I think you should take some time to get out and smell the roses. Just to get some fresh air if nothing else. Try and schedule it once a week. Make it a routine. Spend it with friends or family; your choice. Or just have some alone time. That’s okay too. It doesn’t have to be long. Try doing 45 minutes. Then as the routine fits into the schedule add another 15 minutes. Try to stretch it to hours. Long enough say to catch a movie. But it has to regular or else it won’t happen.

I don’t think there’s any need to reconsider your future, if Molecular Bio and Micro Bio are what you are interested in. Perhaps maybe just establishing some priorities in your life which doesn’t have school at #1. It sounds like you just need to take time for yourself and time to spend with friends, family and just enjoying life.

This is certainly easier said than done because it will no doubt negatively impact your scholastic performance. However, if you truly these other aspects of your life, you will understand the need to make these sacrifices to gain some happiness and save your sanity. And as time goes on, it gets easier to balance out these other areas of your life.

Focusing entirely on one aspect of your life usually brings great joy or great stress. When things go well at school, everything is wonderful because that is your entire life. But when things go badly, life stinks.

So it may be worthwhile to establish clear priorities and allocate your time accordingly. It sounds like you are already beginning to understand that there are aspects of life more important than school. This does not mean you should necessarily leave school, but just make time for enjoying life and understand that this is what you need to do to be happy.

The coming six years are going to come. They are going to come and go. Where do you want to be six years from now? You could be a pharmacist, or you could drop out and get a job at a fast food restaurant. I don’t think you will regret being a pharmacist . . . there is life after work, in any event. But I think you’d really regret a career in the fast food business–unless you owned the franchise, of course.
