Become less shy around people I do not know and know

I have always been shy, thoughout high school and now I am in college and it seems to continue. I am perfectly fine around people I know well but around others I am shy/socially awkard….

with the friends i have now I have known them for about 10 months (probably have seen most at least 3-4 times a week (spending at least 6+ hours together) each time we see each other, but I am still extremely shy around them and I am not able to come out of my shell.

I have tried serveal things to help me some people have told me drinking a little might help. I am not a drinker at all, I have never drank a beer (fully only a taste) and probably have ever only had 1 shot before. Went to this party I had 3-4 shots of Sailor Jerry rum (92% proof), 2-3 Sminoff Triple distilled, a beer and another couple shots of something with whole grain or something. That was done in less than 35 minutes. It didnt have an effect on me at all, in fact it was like I never drank any of that…

I have heard people say clothes make the man. I went out and spent a ton of money on designer clothes (basically enough stuff to where I would not wear the same pair of pants or shirt for at least 3 weeks), as far as I could tell, it help the first week but wore off after…..

I NEED HELP!!!! Any Suggestions…….

Also I can’t hold a conversation, I am always wondering what the other person is thinking. When in group conversations I am always over analyzing ever thing that is said which takes a lot of time. I also analyze everything I say (try to imagine the pros/cons) and usually when I’m done the conversation has moved and and the cycle starts all over….

I can not hold a one on one conversation at all, after about the 1st minute it becomes obvious that I am uncomfortable, but most people assume I am being arrogant or that’s a sign for them to go away.

you gotta put yourself in those situations where you have to talk to people or it’s akward to not talk to someone.. theres really no other way, stop caring what people think of you completely, act a fool like you would if you were alone and bored or with real good friends that act silly too. just dont ever ever care.. its fun. i’ve been shy all my life.. force yourself to talk to people. even if it’s that person at the counter at the gas station, say hi to them before they say hi to you. i mean thats their job.. if you can beat them to it its a start.. consider a job where you deal with customers or talk to strangers a lot. i considered getting a job in sales just to get over my shyness but i got a good job offer elsewhere. im still working on it though

lol, I currently work at Ben & Jerry’s (in fact I am great with customers). I do put myself in situations like that but I just can not form words at all; its like I draw a complete blank.

When you start talking to people, ask questions…
Ask about sports, pets, family, friends, school, work, anything you can think of… When they answer, reply with more detailed questions about their answer, or tell them something about yourself that relates. If the conversation seems to be slowing, change the subject and ask a new question.

hmm.. yeah just ask questions.. be curious. i had to give this guy a ride the other day and he was real quiet the whole time so i just started asking questions.. and that led me to wonder more and ask more questions, even though he didnt talk much or ask anything back really i felt like i did something i never really had before.. its a lot harder to have a conversation with someone like that since you have to constantly keep it going.. so i felt like i could definately hold a good conversation with someone i didnt know that was more outgoing. i dunno maybe try to talk to someone shy and itll give u an idea of how to start and keep it going

Listening is a good skill too. Halloween is coming and that’s an opportunity to have fun:) Most people like to talk and when they know or fell your interested they’ll share:)

DONT DRINK!!! its the sad way to come out of shyness it doesnt build anything
just observe others and soon you will get the idea of how to be social chatting on the internet is a good tool before you start accually talking
i say get a new haircut, do some exercise, i say try boxing because it gives you positive energy you have and you will build inner strength, your mind will become healthy with positive feelings about youself so you can feel more comfortable with yourself, which others will feel to.
