HOW TO GET A LIFE
It’s never easy to overcome innate nerdity, a serious Internet addiction, or a hard-core computer gaming habit, but trying usually isn’t as painful as kidney stones.
Difficulty Level: Hard
Time Required: Years
Here’s How:
Let go of the mouse.
Turn off the computer.
Play a game of solitaire with a real deck of cards.
Eat something other than taco chips.
Fart without recording it and putting it up your Web page.
Get some sleep in bed rather than on your keyboard.
Next time you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, don’t tell everyone on your ICQ list about it.
Open a window without turning your computer back on (yes, it is possible).
Very gradually expose your eyes to increasingly bright light so as to avoid damage or permanent sun blindness.
When you feel prepared for a massive dose of non-CRT radiation, put on welding goggles and go outside.
If you see someone, say “Hi” to them instead of trying to make the modem connect sound.
Visit a friend that you haven’t spoken to in years because they don’t have an email address.
Have “.com” officially removed from behind your name.
Go on a date with someone you didn’t meet in a chat room.

The relevance to this site is amusing on that one.
I’m not offended or anything and I doesnt sit alot in front of a computer-screen.. But the saying “get a life” is just too stupid.. A life is a life - maybe some are more perfect than others, but in the end its all just a life.. So if u like to waste ur time on the internet, then thats a fine life - if u like to waste ur time on “”"getting a life”"” (which no1 can define) then thats fine.. Its all waste of time.. Live ur life as u want to and dont care about what other people tells u.
hey is this post like a ” Wake up Ppl ” or something else ^_^
You know… just because someone’s hobbies may not match yours, or you simply don’t understand them, is no reason to attempt to invalidate their entire lifestyle. Yes, there’s a lot more to the world than the internet. But people know this, obviously. And they clearly don’t care. So, instead of trying to change them to suit what you’re comfortable with, why not live and let live?
Thank you! this is perfect timing for me. And its funny too he he.
Xeno, you’re kickin’ in open doors!
Sophie isn’t trying to change anybody, I guess she sits by her computer at least three times more than you do.
But I guess I need to hear this once in a while, also. Because most of my friends are web friends.
i’m sure it was a great post, but i couldn’t finish reading it after obeying the second point. ;)
the silliness of the fact that i’m replying now is overwhelming. ;)
Am I blind and deaf?
I don’t understand you all!
Sophie is a clever girl. If she really wanted to change you, don’t you think she would have gone about it a bit differently?
I saw this post as just a funny rant, where people can take bits and pieces and maybe recognize themselves in those.
At least I recognize some of the stuff. Last weekend I parked the car on the Friday and sat down in the sofa in front of my laptop. I think I spent 2 weekend hours in my bed, the rest I was sitting or laying in the sofa, and on Monday mornig I rose, took a shower and went to work. This week was basically the same, except for 5 hours on Saturday when I was waxing my car. I have only made pauses for making food or taking showers, the rest I spent by the computer.
I don’t put myself down. I CHOSE to do like this, because I like it and it is pleasant. My friends are here on the web, and I like to talk to them. I live in a town where I don’t have any other friends. But I also know it is not a healthy lifestyle in the long run - if not else I am gaining weight by not moving.
If I took the post too seriously, I would have a problem. And IF I was thinking that I had a problem, I would complain about being put down.
But I am not.
“Open a window without turning your computer back on (yes, it is possible).”
this one very literally made me laugh out loud. ;)
i’m sure that this might offend someone, but this is my thought on the matter:
–the fact that people are getting a little worked up over a joke like this MIGHT be reflective of a reality that is TOO closely attached to the computer-lifestyle.–
that was it. i mean, i don’t even get this worked up when people kid about the way i live in real life! eh, maybe that’s just how i am, but perhaps the world (or cyberspace) could benefit from people being a little more relaxed. ;)
As a general rule, we should try to not be so touchy about things.
“Flaws”, “bad habits” or oddities (or why not just habits) which are very common, will also be subject to jokes.
When we learn how to joke a little about also our own peculiarities, the world gets more relaxed.
ha ha, even it’s not a flaw at all that’s being joked about, we can take an attempt at humor lightly, even if you don’t particularly find it that humorous at all (which i personally did, i often make jokes myself about my own “innate nerdity” ;] ). if you can learn to laugh at youself, you’re probably happier than the average person.
[i’m sure there’s a more inspirational quote somewhere online about laughing at yourself, but you’ll have to forgive me for butchering it. ;)]
ah, here we go:
“Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century.”
Dame Edna Everage, In a television interview with Joan Rivers
Australian Comedian (character of Barry Humphries) (1934 - )
but don’t forget!:
“Laugh at yourself, but don’t ever aim your doubt at yourself. Be bold. When you embark for strange places, don’t leave any of yourself safely on shore. Have the nerve to go into unexplored territory.”
Alan Alda
;)
you’ll also have to forgive me for being a quote addict ;]
“Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can”
Elsa Maxwell
“The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.”
Mark Twain
“That is the saving grace of humor, if you fail no one is laughing at you. “
A. Whitney Brown (took me a sec to get that one, but it sure got a laugh from me) ;)
“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter. “
e e cummings
“You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing.”
Michael Pritchard
don’t take life to seriously. :)

Google the joke …. you may find it.Thanks — but no thanks.
Context is always important, Sophie. Here, the overarching context is “help” — I’m not saying there’s a law against jokes, but since you have, at times, been quite demanding (I could show examples, but I think I’ll spare them), it is only natural to feel that perhaps when you write “GET A LIFE” (in ALL CAPS) that you might be upset.
So now you’re laughing and find it amusing to get this response.
Well: Good luck next time! ;P
Must Sophie be chastised?! Can’t we all recognize that we’re a little eensy weensy bit addicted here? Was this really an “attack?” Come on!! Lighten up.
Thank you, Sophie - and now I’m going out into the light of day!!!
It would also be good to take a shower before going outside. Just a friendly suggestion…LOL

Ugh… if you haven’t tried it, don’t knock it.

I’ve tried both & I knock both :]
Much love from a former runescape addict.
Runescape has always sucked, though. WoW is not a game anyone with any extensive experience in it would bash. Maybe if you played for an hour and got to lvl 10. Or played Alliance.

I’ve played WoW for over an hour, thanks, & I did play alliance. & a friend (who plays Alliance) has reccomended I don’t start it, as its a waste of time. Completing it, & perfecting the art of playing i” is like chasing a rainbow, no matter how much effort you put into it, you still won’t reach it, so you stay on it thinking you can finish it, as you kid yourself into thinking your almost there, its an illusion & a great money making scheme. If you ever did complete everything, they’d only make an expansion & you’d be back at square 1.
D.
Lol, you may have your opinion, if you enjoy being wrong. ^_^
