Money help: Please, I need some words of encouragement. - Help.com

Please, I need some words of encouragement.

I’ve got money woes. I did the extreme by selling everything (which wasn’t much, as I am a minimalist) & leaving my home to move to a new city for a better job, but everything is slow-going. Though employed, I haven’t started working the hours that were projected; my husband is a skilled tradesman who can’t even get a job in a burger joint, let alone a building contract. Our tenants can’t pull it together enough to pay rent in full or on time and there is the chance that we may lose the house. A bummer but I accept it. We only have enough money to pay next month’s rent and groceries, no money for bills… All of our resources are tapped out… I’ve never been this bad off. Things just aren’t working out in the time frame that we’ve given ourselves based on experience, employment, and our budget. It’s not for lack of effort or motivation… We’re not soup-kitchen status and we do have heat so our situation’s not dire, but it doesn’t feel good. I know there are people with “real” problems but just to give you an example, I can’t even bring my 9 yr old to watch High School Musical this weekend. I know that sounds crass but I can only imagine how left out she’ll feel when she gets to school Monday and she’s the only one who hasn’t seen it because her parents can’t afford it. A movie! We haven’t shopped or dined out in forever- we’re being cautious with what little money we have. My husband has completely forgotten what beer tastes like. Apparently the unemployment rate in this city is at its peak, so we’re not unique in any way. I am thankful for our health and for the things we do have- the time together, the memories, hot water, internet… but I’d like some financial security. Maybe after the election, who knows.

You could contact catholic charities and other church organizations as they are designed to help the needy. Salvation army the united way and many other organizations can also help out. Good luck hope this helps you :)

These churches also have food banks that will help as well. Maybe contacting your local welfare office as they also can help, and steer you in the right direction :)

Fortunatley (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective) we are not at “welfare” status yet. The fact that we own a home (albeit just barely and out of state) disqualifies us from receiving assistance. Also against us is that there is no reason that we i>can’t /i> work (physical disability, etc); he just isn’t getting hired and I haven’t been given many hours. But nor do we qualify for our unemployment benefits. Thank you. You have inspired me to look into organizations that may be serve as resources.

I know exactly how you feel. I’m a single parent of 3 facing dire situation, my rent is still not paid for this month and don’t see any money for next month. I’ve done all I can do and I’m standing on the word of God. His word says He will never leave you nor forsake you, that you are the head and not the tail, no weapon formed against you shall prosper. I believe His word is true, He is not a man that he should lie. I found a home business, that’s a real business and I’m working it. I was afraid of the phone at first, but my children being homeless scares me more. I hope you read this and it gives you some hope, try going to www.Deliverlingonthepromise.com/Lreid , or www.freedomathometeam.com/Lreid

God Bless,

guess i haven’t logged on in a few days. thank for your replies.

it’s always comforting to know someone out there empathizes, lreid.

max, i have already moved from hawaii to seattle. my husband’s trade is irrelevant (see below).

most-wanted, i have been in a rut for so long that i’ve abandoned hula, yoga, and reading, my feel-good/ my-time things. i like my current job, i just wish it would pick up! my husband doesn’t want to do (& couldn’t for awhile due to injury) what he usually does, so maybe his not getting contracts is self-fulfilling, even on a subconscious level.

at work on friday, i won a $50 gas card at a raffle. first name called! hadn’t decided what to do with the card since i no longer have a vehicle. as i was walking home from the bus stop, i saw a neighbor heading up his steps with a case of beer in hand… i turned around and headed for the gas station and bought my husband (i don’t drink) a 6 pack. (friday night, it’d been awhile, it was funded by a totally unexpected source, why not?) when i got home i learned that my parents had sent my kids a care package that incuded chocolates and money for the movies. apparently the school principal also called to ask if everything is ok. (not sure what to make of that…?) the following day when we returned from the movies there was a collection of books and toys on our porch left by a neighbor. today my husband attended a training class for a job. that’s right, people: work.

i think if i change my perspective, things will go my way. i really do think that. but it’s taken me until about 5 minutes ago to actually make those changes.

I totally understand your situation. I am feeling the same way. With the economy the way it is, it seems like work (no matter how much you like your job), is just that “WORK”. As a married mother of two myself, bills just keep on piling up, food, gas, and everything basic you need to survive is so expensive. The only good thing is that Gas prices are going down, so it won’t cost so much to get to work. Living paycheck to paycheck sucks. I have figured that buying food at discount stores helps. Hopefully after the election, things will change for the better. People like us just need to pray and hope for the best. Another bright thing, tax time is around the corner, and the refund should come in real handy.

Sorry for the typo’s Melt, I been tired. My attention span suffers and I start work at 6.00 am and finish at 6-8. Sadly even two hard working people that relocate today still struggle. Here we struggle with family members having to work in the oil sands and not see their family (4000 miles away. It’s a rough, cold territory).

You my sweet need a break as many other good people:) A break from the hand to mouth. They say that education and a trade can help, but from what I see from people….it is luck. Falling into the right opportunity. I wish and pray that soon you over hear of an opportunity that will bring you some relief. The weather is getting cold here and sometimes I pick up extra cash maintaining property for people that travel south for the winter. I’ve been thinking of you and your family to find an answer. It’ll come, have faith:)

I really feel for you. I remember hearing all the stories of how my parents generation survived the depression, and the only affordable escape was the movies, and here we are in a time when even the movies are too expensive for many of us. OK, some perspective. You have a roof over your head, you have food on the table, and you have drinking water. That makes you among the richest 7% in the world. I’m having some problems too, so I know that this doesn’t really help much. And keep focused on your health, and keeping it! (I’m dealing with my wife’s health problems, which have been made worse by our money problems, so I really know what I’m talking about.) Just try to keep an open mind, because the greatest success stories always follow the lowest points in people’s lives.
