Do you think the world will come up with revolutionary technology to send a few people back in time?
We’ve been talking about it at school alot, talking about what would happen if someone killed a butterfly or a mouse, and how much it would change the cycle of life. It’s not very trustworthy and I’m scared of it happening.. But what happens to everyone else when one is sent back in time? Do we stay in our present places or what? No need for abuse, I just want your theory on this :) Thankyou.

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
Physically I doubt it, but there are other ways.
If you want to discus theory… If possible, to travel back in time physically, your body would no longer exist in that plane of existance, instead in the timeframe to which you were sent. If you were to interract with yourself, you could change your own future and even cease to exist, as in premature death.
Returning to your normal time plane, if you returned at or just after you departed, to everyone else, you would never have gone anywhere at all.
Ashton Kutcher movie…The Butterfly Effect.
you should see if the teacher will rent it to watch in class….
google Butterfly Effect..but not the film..it’s a scientific theory
if it was possible for a person to go back in time while others remained at their present, i think a lot of memory erasing would be involved with those who knew the future or present person that got sent back. and then in all time planes of that person’s life that got sent back, that person would change accordingly in each time plane so that their body and mind matched the effects of the willful decisions of the past person that they were and are. it seems possible but i think ironically, noone would notice a thing and think they were just in the present like nothing had been altered in the past or future. but i don’t think there is anything to worry about, if you figure you’ve ever gone back in time, i’d love to hear your story :) goodluck
Phrased much better than myself frette :)
Makes sense and accurate. traveling to the past can be done from an observer’s perspective, but I’ve never seen interraction.
Now everyone thinks I’m a headcase…
Hmmm . . . need to think about this one for a while. I will answer it yesterday!
Time is irrelevant, and the discussion you guys were talking about is called “The Butterfly Effect” which is the theory that when a butterfly flaps its wings it causes a ripple in the universe, and killing it creates a alternate effect. So its not necessarily “physically going back in time”, but creating an alternate reality where it effects the past and present, I believe. I’ll look up more on that.
I think it’s already been done. My stupid father for instance has the tolerance of some one from the 1800’s.
The “butterfly effect” she referred to came from a Ray Bradbury story, “A Sound of Thunder,” written in 1952. Some time travelers go back to the time of the dinosaurs and one accidentally steps on a butterfly. As a result, the timeline plays out in a different way, changing the future as the time travelers originally knew it.
According to all known laws of physics, it is impossible.
To do it would mean to duplicate objects, and seeing as matter can neither be created nor destroyed, I don’t see how.
Also, the only possible way to do it would mean that you’d have to EXCEED the speed of light.
Also impossible.
I’m not disagreeing with you by any stretch of the imagination, however… there are things that physics can not explain and are beyond it’s capabilities. Example you ask? The human personality, behavior, emotion.

You’re right, physics has not explained it… but chemistry and biology have. And it’s not like they go AGAINST laws of nature. Einstein proved that you could not exceed light in this universe.

What? No, you still couldn’t. Sorry.
*slaps head* you’d loose molecular cohesion.. –> (Molecular Meltdown)
Getting tired, fingers not making sense… maybe I need to turn the brain back on..

I still don’t understand what you mean. You’re not making sense. Einstein’s theories have been tested. Anyway, I’m going to bed.
Not for this thread anyway..
In short, I know people who have been able to see past events through others. Events that they could have no previous knowledge of. In a way travel can be done, just not physically. Future technology? Who knows.. How long ago was the earth flat? How long ago was the earth the center of the universe? How many people “DIED” opposing that theory? Most anything is possible, I deal in probabilities.

Well, those are probably coincidences.
Not according to the people being read. The details were too specific. Hacks will ask a ton of questions but give very vague responses, basically telling you what you think you want to hear.

Yeah, but there are stories of “psychics” who have claimed to see past and future energies, but have been wrong.
well heres a twist for u…if in the future ppl did invent a time machine then how do we know that theyr not in our present trying to change our future that they came back from….lol…its a lot to wrap ones head around but tampering with the past is very very tricky…the smallest change can have a huge ripple effect. I recommend u watch the movie Butterfly effect with ashton kutcher..its a serious movie about time travel and deals with real and very serious issues in our society today! let me know how u like the movie.

BUT Einstein also said hat if humans were to use the complete power of their brains they will not not need their bodies to move around and get things done.
U also have to take into consideration that time is man made…the universe knows no concept of time…it is merly a repetition of cycles of mother nature that man has added numbers 2…so if some one wants to call the year 2000 year 1 then thats their reality of time and nobody can say that they didnt go back in time.
Time is not man-made. No. The universe DOES have a concept of time, though, as you correctly state, not in numbers. Anyway, this is getting old, and I’m unsubscribing. Shout me if you need me.
Oh, and the Butterfly Effect is in no way realistic. There is no way to visit the past, and not really the future. You could leave in a time machine for the future by approaching light speeds, but history would continue on WITHOUT you there.
Confusing! Haha.
But yeah my teacher was explaining to us the Butterfly Effect and i was all confused (as i am right now) and i just wanted to see what people think :) Thanks for all the replies they were very interesting
