Would you say this is ironic?

Well, I asked a guy to homecoming, he said yes.

1) I don’t even think he likes me because he asked out two girls (at least) before I asked him but they said no and I think he likes one of them.
2) He doesn’t like the steryotyped “emo”. He says emos are people who cut… I say it’s a style. He doesn’t like the ones who cut… I am not emo, but I cut and he doesn’t know it.

I don’t even know how I feel about him anymore. I can’t look at him in the same way, but I think I still want to go with him anyway, it’s kinda too late otherwise.

You don’t really like him, you doubt that he likes you, he’s smart, and doesn’t cut, you’re… well enough educated, but you cut anyway, which he doesn’t like, and yet you’re still going to to a dance with him? face it, you’re just going with him because you desperately want to go to a dance, and refuse to go alone. You’re going with him for all the wrong reasons, and none of the right reasons, and thus, you’re bound to have a miserable time at the dance.

First of all… shut up. You don’t know the whole story.
1) I liked this guy a lot, so I asked him out.
2) After I asked him out, I found out all of those things.
3) I told my mom I cut… so that pretty much means I’ve stopped.
4) I am in a school district that thinks high B’s are failing. I am in AP biology as a freshman in high school. So I think my education is pretty decent.

Here is my opinion on emos. Emo’s are people who dress to get attention by wearing tight clothes, so yes a style. And most people who cut don’t dress emo.

And Ironic I would say not, maybe coincidental.

Well… the attention part applies to only some… but okay. I wear skinny jeans, but that’s about it. I don’t wear vans or straighten my hair or wear dark eyeliner or anything like that.

Jeez. If you ask for people’s opinions, don’t throw a tantrum when they tell you the TRUTH instead of what you WANT tho hear.

Do what you want, you’ll see I’m right either way.

Wrong. Not all opinions are right, but some are. If you are of the opinion that the world is round, you are right, even though it’s just your opinion.

No, “the world is round” is a fact. Facts can be PROVEN (keyword) right or wrong… while opinions vary and can not be proven.

Wrong. Not all opinions are right, but some are. If you are of the opinion that the world is round, you are right, even though it’s just your opinion.

But it is proven true so would it not be a fact. And if you believed the world was flat it would be a misconseption?

And I would have to agree with Xeno, sorry but if you feel uncomfortable now then you most likely will not have a good time. I had that happen to me last year as a freshman. Never know though.

But I need to get off for the night.

In this case, his stereotyping is ironic to me also (keep in mind the meaning of ironic can differ slightly and some would disagree ^^). But it is also unfortunate. Stereotyping is a very bad practice because it is nothing but ignorance and generalization in one messy combination. I can see easily how that makes you feel worth less to him than what you should be. I think if he is any friend of yours, especially as someone you have feelings for, you should tell him about you and explain. Try to make him understand. If he does not, he is not a good friend to keep around.

So, on the topic of irony then, how do you define it? I think if you consider the definition as also including something that is percieved as true and the reality being totally different, I’d say this fits.

Irony is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does, and what one means or what is generally understood.

Cutting anywhere on your body. I “use” to cut my arms. It can be fingers, wrists, legs, or any part.

“emo”- common features…. listen to screaming music, wear tight pants, dark make-up. Some guys even wear eyeliner. Oh! And straightend hair.

i think that its not ironic he just sounds like a guy its hard to like someone that you cant help liking but i think the best thing to do is keep your eyes open to other guys. if he judges people espcially since he obviously doesnt understand the underlining meaning behind why people cut hes not worth it. just go to the dance have fun i mean homecoming is a lot of fun and its not like you have to be with him the whole time try to look past what you know for that night and enjoy yourself.

I dont want you top take this the wrong way, but I agree with Xeno as well.

I’m sure you did like this guy, but it seems like now that you know him better, your not feeling him as much…

You might have fun at the dance, you might end up liking him more :D

So, I think you should still go with him, but if you feel this way still after a while, it probably would be best to break it off.

Also, no offence but cutting is stupid, everyone does stupid things, but cutting is not a smart thing to do, Im happy you told your mom, and that shpows you know its not right, just remember you dont have to settle for this guy if you figure you dont like him, you jst have to be honest with your own feeliungs and respect his too, I mean if you dont like him but stay with him just to go to a dance, that can be considered using him.

But I dont think it’s really like that.
