I just made a new website to help people that are in the same situation that I find myself in.

Barter Net aims to bring together individuals in need of immediate financial help who can offer a service to individuals who can give these donations. I’m asking that you take a look at the page and if you wish, register as either a Service Provider or a Funds Provider. Registration is free of course and this will remain a free service as long as we can handle the demand. Funds Providers will be matched with Service Providers who are able to provide the service that they would be willing to take in return for a donation. For instance, if you are a web designer that’s having a tough time register and maybe we can match you with someone who would be willing to pay a bill in return for some work. The system is automatic, you don’t have to deal with anyone until you’ve been matched and the terms have been agreed on by the other party.

The website is in beta mode right now so any bug reports would be appreciated. Also, we are currently accepting donations if you like what we are doing, as this site is not free to run.

We have some similar schemes running in UK on a very local level. Individuals sign up with offers of help ..in exchange for help they need.

It’s a kind of help-swop idea.

No money changes hands, each skill is considered equal. An hour’s babysitting = an hour’s gardening. An hour with an accountant is equivalent to a cake baked… that sort of thing. Terms are set by the helpers.

So, if you can’t afford a plumber.. you look for one who is willing to fix your tap in exchange for you babysitting for his wife’s birthday meal. That sort of thing!

By the way.. I’m british and scheme here means “idea” ! Just in case of any confusion with US concept of scheme as “scam”.

No I get it..that’s a really good idea. The closest thing state side is Craigs list, but I’m sure it happens on a local level somewhere. Well, there is freecycle..I don’t know their URL but you can google it. It’s similar.

I hadn’t realized craiglist had that concept. NOw that the economy is in such a state and I being one that really needs this especially at this time I see how wonderful an idea it is, Im sure your site will take off with no problem, thank you so much for doing and sharing with us, maybe this will prevent homelessness and more, bless you :) NOw if I could just find something similar- locally,mmmmm
