marriage help: I need someone, anyone, to help me figure out how to get my utilities paid. - Help.com

I need someone, anyone, to help me figure out how to get my utilities paid.

My husband and I, like so many others, have been hit by one thing after another and are struggling to stay above water. We’ve taken steps to get on the right track by moving and putting our house up for sale, but because of our 5 year olds’ medical bills we’ve fallen behind on our utilities. They are currently shut-off, but in order for us to be able to sell the house they have to be turned on. It would cost about $700.00 to do this. If anyone has any ideas or words of support it would be greatly appreciated. God Bless!

You need to talk to the utilities company and tell them that you are going to put them in the escrow papers. And as you sell the house, the escrow company can send them a check so you don’t skip without paying them!

I can relate to your situation. My adjustable mortgage went through the roof and me and my husband had to do just about everything on earth to stay afloat. It’s been about 2 year and next month it looks like we will finally be okay. Some of the things we did to reduce cost or make money were:

1. Sell things do you have a car, bike, tv, etc..
2. E-bay things same as above….
3. Look for local charities/churches … ask for help
4. Talk to your utility companies…try to settle say how about for 50.00 now or a payment plan.

Good Luck

I just spoke with them and even though I told them the house is vacant they won’t do anything. I told them We needed the heat to be on, only to 60 degrees, so the pipes won’t freeze, but they said I had to be caught up. I even offered to do automatic payment out for my checking, but they didn’t care. My agent said they need to be on to pass inspection.

Why don’t you talk to your agent to lend you the $700.00 and he can be put on the escrow papers so they give him an extra $700.00 when you close the sale?

I don’t know why these people keep posting charities because they will not pay for utilities if no one is living in the house that your trying to sell. The only thing to do is start paying weekly on the balance (every check pay on it) Work extra hours or get another job to add to the income. Both of you should have a job if one of you don’t you need to go to your local command labor and get some temp work. In order to make it you both need to have a job, its a basic fact. Hope this helps :-)
