If you’re interested in jazz performance, The New School in NYC has a really amazing program… you can study privately w/ anyone in NYC! Other great jazz schools include The Manhattan School Of Music, Julliard, University Of North Texas, & Berklee.

I have a BA in music performance, & often wonder whether it was worth the investment. In some ways, it definitely was, but my student loan debt is substantial… Not the best if you want to be an artist.

An alternate route: move to a major music city, find some excellent private teachers, & study on your own. The biggest benefit to music school is the connections you make to other students, although if you’re talented & dedicated, this can be found through other avenues.

Something worth considering…

Hi I Am not old enough to be thinking about colloge yet but I am into music, I play Picolo, flute, piano, tuba, clarinet, and violin. I am leaning toward jazz because that is my favorite thing to do on piano. I was hoping to get into juliard but that seems very imposible. now, what is this school that you are talking about and where is it. I was thinking New york or some where near there because then it is closer to home. The reason why I would like to start thinking about collage in sophmore year is because I think that it is important and I would like to keep all of my options open so that I wont fall behind when the time comes.

Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin has its own music conservatory. It is a unique and wonderful program in the mid-west. Another good mid-west school is Luther College in Iowa.
