Voters Purged from Voter Rolls
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — College senior Kyla Berry was looking forward to voting in her first presidential election, even carrying her voter registration card in her wallet.
But about two weeks ago, Berry got disturbing news from local election officials.
“This office has received notification from the state of Georgia indicating that you are not a citizen of the United States and therefore, not eligible to vote,” a letter from the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections said.
But Berry is a U.S. citizen, born in Boston, Massachusetts. She has a passport and a birth certificate to prove it.
The letter, which was dated October 2, gave her a week from the time it was dated to prove her citizenship. There was a problem, though — the letter was postmarked October 9.
“It was the most bizarre thing. I immediately called my mother and asked her to send me my birth certificate, and then I was like, ‘It’s too late, apparently,’ ” Berry said.
Berry is one of more than 50,000 registered Georgia voters who have been “flagged” because of a computer mismatch in their personal identification information. At least 4,500 of those people are having their citizenship questioned and the burden is on them to prove eligibility to vote.
Experts say lists of people with mismatches are often systematically cut, or “purged,” from voter rolls.
It’s a scenario that’s being repeated all across the country, with cases like Berry’s raising fears of potential vote suppression in crucial swing states….

Never mind… I’m starting to get too literal…
Welcome to bureaucracy; if you think the government can’t make mistakes like this unless it is on purpose you place way to much credit where it does not deserve to be placed.
Sorry Berry, you can try again in 4 years, all hope isn’t over.
As a consolation you should keep in mind that with the state of the current government, the people who are being allowed to vote aren’t picking the next president or congressmen either. So you haven’t lost that much.
I’ll only say this one thing: This is affecting mostly Democratic minority voters.
If you go on with this, saying more things like “Sorry Berry, you can try again in 4 years” I will close the post.
It’s Barry anyway… Just saying. =)

What does this mean??
Barry is Barack’s nickname, not Berry as that guy put.
He was referring to Kyle Berry, the girl who was taken off the voter rolls.
Oh. *facepalms and then knocks self out*
It’s been more than a dat since I’ve slept. Excuse my idiocy.

If I go on like what? stating the truth or not agree with you?
Close your post if you want. That doesn’t change the fact that Berry can try again in 4 years and that its not a big deal this happened to her. Its bad luck, her name was in the wrong place at the wrong time when our governments inadequacies came to light. She’ll have better luck next time.

Its not bad luck Da-11 it’s bad computer programming/bad data management which has resulted in the funamental right of a citizen to vote being compromised.
Voting eligibility should not be computer dependent and that’s something for your next government to address.
If a citizen has a valid passport and birth certificate, they should just be able to turn up and vote.
That’s how it was done in the good old days before computers and it worked perfectly fine!
Mum your right, I did not make my self clear. Its bad luck that the government inadequacies hit Berry specifically. It’s bad luck for Berry. It is incompetence on the part of the government, its not the first example of the in competency and it wont be the last.
But your wrong about some one just being able to vote when they show up with id. What stops them from showing up at different polling places through out the day. The registry is to direct the voter to the correct polling place and to insure the polling place can expect them.
In the good old days the population was much smaller and fewer people voted. You can’t expect the good old way to work forever. Besides how many people where disfranchised in the good old days; you have done nothing to prove that it is less then now. Just because the good old ways worked for you doesn’t mean they worked for everyone. Hell in the good old days whole groups of people weren’t even allowed to vote because of things like their gender or race.

There have been reports EVERYWHERE, since 2000. There have been very very few report of “voter fraud,” the excuse for the current and ongoing disenfranchisement.
reports of disfranchisement and voter fraud since “2000″? Does your historical perspective of US politics start in the year 2000? disfranchisement and voter fraud have been a part of politics since politics was invented, it has a long history in US politics as well.
There is nothing in the events you brought up that show that what happen is nothing more then bureaucracy; I can understand you lack of prospective on bureaucratic incompetence if your political prospective starts in 2000. But there is nothing new here.
More slightly veiled insults. I said there have been reports EVERYWHERE (about disenfranchisement) since 2000. You might have noticed them if you had been reading. I don’t need you to instruct me in history. I have been alive for quite some time. I think all you “understand” (and enjoy) is combat.
