I’m going to sound like an idiot for sure…

but here goes! I’m confused on who I’d like to vote for now. In the beginning, I was a strong Obama fan. I love his theory on change, I 1st saw him on Oprah (before he announced his candidacy) and was very moved by him. However, I don’t believe in abortion (politically speaking however, I do believe it’s the state’s choice) & I’m terrified of higher taxes (although I probably won’t fall into that category). The primary thing with this election for me is the Iraq war. I’ve had numerous friends serve, some are okay, all okay physically, some mentally disturbed. I believe we are spending too much money on the war. America is in it’s own crisis. I guess what I’m asking is for some of you to break it down for me. Who is the lesser of the evil and why?? Who is going to get the US back where it needs to be & why do you think so?? I have lots of political ?s, so if you’re good at this stuff hang around… I’ll be picking your brain.

I am voting for Obama. He is very intelligent and compassionate, and I really think he has a chance turn things around for this country. We need someone with vision and a steady hand, someone who is reasonable and who will regain respect for our country. We need inspiration right now, and I am inspired by his ideas.

Look up the independent studies that were done on middle class incomes. Those findings are that taxes will actually go down for those considered middle class. McCain’s plan has it decreasing by a few hundred, while Obama’s decreases by over $1000.

Did you know that people who make over $103,000 a year are exempt from paying SS taxes on any income over that amount? How is that right? I make MUCH less and I am taxed on ALL the money I earn. It’s not that wealthy people will pay more, it’s that they will be obliged to pay taxes on ALL their income, just like everybody else.

Have you heard McCain talk about Obama’s plan for energy independence? He said something like “Obama wants to look into expanding nuclear power (McCain’s talking about a plant in every state or some crazy thing), but wants to make sure we can store the waste safely, blah, blah blah (he actually said blah, blah, blah).” Everyone cheered. “Blah, blah, blah?” I’m sorry, but I would want to make sure that it is safe! Ever heard of Chernobyl? Nuclear waste is not something to just dump all over the planet. You can’t get rid of it once it’s there. It’s irreversible. It is just so disrespectful, both ignoring the consequences of your actions AND putting someone down because they want to get all the facts before they do commit to doing something that could be potentially dangerous.

Do you care about healthcare? Do you think it should be tied to your job? I don’t. What does having healthcare have to do with working a full time job? What if I can only find 3 part time jobs? What if I want to run my own business? Obama will let you keep the healthcare you have if you like it, but he will also provide alternatives for those who don’t. I’m all for that.

We are going to have a government, that’s a given. I simply think the government should represent the people it governs, not big business and pharmaceutical companies.

To set the record straight on the abortion issue: Democrats are not “pro-abortion.” I don’t think anyone is FOR abortion. They just don’t think the government should make that decision for you. Just like I don’t want the government telling me how many kids I can have. It’s none of their business, on both counts. Obama want to PREVENT unwanted pregnancies, to give people more chances to make the right decision by providing community support for women who are in that desperate situation. I think that is the right thing to do.

I think it’s interesting that Republicans claim to be pro-life, but are all for war and the death penalty. They are against government funded programs for those in need. That doesn’t sound very pro-life to me.

I believe in healthy families, healthy babies, community support, and prevention (of abortion, and of crime - by having mental health services and support services for those who are in desperate need of those things).

Take it for what it’s worth…it’s just my own opinion, but I think these are some of the important things to consider for the upcoming election.

Oh my gosh! I have the exact same feeling!
I used to be all for Obama, but when I heard all his postures on abortion (which I’m completely against), I started doubting. But then again… there’s the war issue.
I’ll probably end up voting for the green party and “wasting” my vote.
I can’t stand the idea of voting for either.

I think this bear repeating (since I sort of rambled on and on in my last post. Lol.)

thanks mountaingrl. i agree with you on all of that. i just kinda needed it broken down. i especially agree on the mental health services and on the hypocricy of republicans on abortion and war. it cancels each other out. i probably would’ve still voted for Obama since that is what my gut is telling me. however, you made me remember why i orginally felt that way. i get mixed up in all the mumbo-jumbo late in the campaigns. have you noticed that in the beginning (when the race begins) things seem so much clearer?? the candidates tell you what THEY are for and what THEY believe, rather than blabbing about why their opponent is so awful.

Oh, I know…I really wish they would quit with the negative campaigning. Most of the stuff that is being said (out of a desperation to win) isn’t true anyway.

That is another reason I’m not a big fan of McCain…of course they are both getting somewhat negative, but his campaign has taken it over the top.
