gah, i hurt…

so i recently took up running last friday. And friday i took it easy and came in out of breath but fine. I didn’t sat. because by the time i’d gotten home that day it was dark. (i’ve been running at night because thats when i have the time)
But then sunday, i’d just had a crummy weekend, crummy day, and i just pushed myself really hard..i overdid it..thought i was gonna be sick:P
well after that the back of my thighs and calves were sore..of course. no big surprise. So i took monday off. then today i went for a run, determined to do better than before, and i did, but now its not just my leg muscles that are sore, its like my lower back and neck are killing me and i'’m wondering if they are related..i expected to be sore, but not there:S

that and i wanted to tell someone how i’ve been busting my butt!:P heehee

Yes it is related to answer your question. You probably have bad posture when you run, which means your lower back is taking the brunt of the work instead of the strongest set of muscles in your body, the legs. Go into a running shoe store and have them watch you on a treadmill, they will get you shoes for your style and give you how to keep good posture.

You didn’t mention that you took up stretching too, is that because you stretched before you took up running? In my mind, if you are not mentioning and feeling proud of your stretching as well as your running then you do not have an extensive enough routine. Proper stretching before and after running is great; it really helps to go night after night. I won’t bore you with all the “bring your keys” reminders of stretching. That said, I will give you a few:
-stretching before an activity is important because it lets your muscles know they are about to be used, which helps prevent the shock of just starting as well as injury
-do not over-stretch just to feel more accomplished, know your limits and do that
-after you run do not give yourself too large of a cool down before you stretch, try to do it before the muscles cool off too much
Running is a good stress relieving addiction; it’s like “untrippy,” man!

You are probably not giving your leg muscles sufficient time to heal. You are pushing too hard, too quickly. Build up more gradually so your body will have the ability to adjust!

Obviously running is not your activity. You should quit it immediately. At the very least give up running outside and start virtual running on your wii.

Uh, anybody else smell a troll?
Don’t listen to this person. Running just takes some getting use to. And if we are born with legs to walk and run, why wouldn’t you be able to run?
