Here’s an interestin story 4 ya.

My mom graduated from Alverno college with honors and is now a really successful RN nurse.

My dad is a 9th grade dropout who is now a painter paid close to minimum wage.

When my mom was a teenager she kept a diary, I found it today, paged through it, and happened to notice there was an entry on my to-be birthday - December 11, 1985 (that’s the date in her diary, not my birth year). It describes that days events, including the results of 3 school tests, all A’s, one of her teachers pulling her aside to tell her she’s putting her in a more advanced math class, and her opening up her first bank account. What a great day!!

Later, as I was sifting the same box I got the diary from, I found a nice looking leather bound book. Turned out it was my late grandmother’s planner for the years 1984 and 1985. As I paged through this I relized she also kept track of events in her children’s/her personal lives. Here’s what was written on December 11, 1985 - - “Kris “(my dad) “in another fight today. Suspended till after break.”

When I asked my dad about this he gave me the full story… after a fit of laughter.

Apparently he had gotten into a fight (over who knows what) and was waiting in the office for someone to pick him up, when he got fed up with the secretary’s scolding him from behind her desk, flipped her off, and walked out the door. He then found some friends who had skipped school, got uncomprehensively drunk, decided to pierce their ears, and did so by shoving not a needle through their numbed earlobes, but an earing through their quite un-numbed earlobes.

My dad got drunk and pierced his ear, and my mom opened her first bank account and got 3 a’s on not only the same day, but on the day that would be my birthday less then 10 years later.Really freaky, huh?

I guess oposites do attract. I just hope like hell I don’t get sucked into the bad boy thing like my mother obviously did…
