I got fired.
Before getting fired, I put it down as current employment on two applications to places that I actually want to work. So, I had a second job the whole time.. I am currently going to omit it from all future applications, but, how should I frame the situation to the two employers I have yet to interview with?

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
I would think you’d have to explain it to them. They may call the company for a reference, and if so…
Your best bet is to be up front and honest.
I saw your previous post. Maybe tell them that you thought the working conditions were unsafe or whatever, and so when you mentioned it, you were fired…
obviously you’d give the proper details.
Yeah. I was fired because I was scheduled to work a double. After working the first half.. (Two Hours…) I was sent on break and told to come back at 5.. (5 hour break..!?) When I came back I worked for two hours and I was cut again… I went downstairs and told the manager that it was unacceptable, and she responded with bs reasons. I told her my availability will change to mornings only (SO they can’t do that to me again) She said when’s your next in, I said 12 thursday. So when I came in again, she said hi like no big deal. I went to change and felt that since she hadn’t mentioned anything I should at the least apologize. I went and apologized, at which point she said well, I have to talk to (the other manager). So, then, she did. I was given the rest of the day off, and told that I would be called. The previous day I had written down the experience as current employment on two applications for places that I want to work! So then I get fired.. for being _reasonable_…. And now I have to cover my *ss to these two new employers.. Sheesh.. I am thinking I will tell them like it is too. I don’t know how they will react though, as they may engage in the same practice of screwing people over………..
Overall, I felt the manager was being passive-agressive and indirect throughout my termination. Which would have made it unacceptable for me to stay anyway. If I was smart, I would have said, you know what, I quit. Although I didn’t……….
I did throw in an, “so are you asking me to resign”… Ugh…… I don’t even know man.
can you not contact employment standards?
I’m not sure what you mean by that? The problem is I already listed the restaurant number.. I could instead give them the HR number of the corp. But then it’d just look like i’m trying to conceal something.
thank you very much by the way for helping. my last two questions had so few responses
no worries :)
Employment Standards would be the Department of Labour in your state. They should have a website. Check it to see if they list “grounds for dismissal”
no, your best bet is to list the restaurant phone number.
in Canada it’s against the law for a former employer to make personal remarks about former employees.
There may be something similar where you are
Whatever job you eventually get, you might want to re-think your attitude. Most bosses with more than an ounce of courage would have fired you on the spot. Add a few more sudden terminations to your employment record and you’ll have trouble getting any job, even cleaning roadkill off the highway for minimum wage.
fired on the spot for what?
I had a double. I showed up for it, worked for two hours, and got cut on my break. The break lasted 5 hours. Then I started working again, and I was cut after two hours. Keep in mind my wage is 5/hr+tips… Pretty bad wage to jerk me around like that. So I went and told the manager how it was, that I wouldn’t have them doing that to me and they apparently thought I was too assertive about it. So, MA is an employment-at-will state. You can be terminated for any reason or no reason at any time at all. So that’s what they did. ;)
I am pretty confident about the job I interviewed for the exact day I got fired. Fired, then immediately invited for a second interview for a better, and better paying job.
Well, best of luck to you. Just be honest
OK, you should know that MOST past employers will NOT give a negative reference, because they’re afraid of being sued.
You tell a prospective employer that you went to talk to your manager about very irregular scheduling (use those terms), and that you presented your case in a very respective and cordial way, but that you were terminated over this objection. You tell a prospective employer that you don’t mind working long hours, that you don’t mind working hard, but that you had a question about the “very irregular” scheduling, and that in your opinion the manager overreacted. Employers can understand that not everyone who is a manager is a REAL manager. Some are little puffed-up martinets.
You might also consult a labor attorney and get a free consultation about “wrongful termination.” You should also apply for unemployment benefits. If your past employer tries to block you, threaten to sue . . . but through a lawyer.

Except!!! There is no public record of employment here. And since I have two jobs, it looks like i have been steadily employed. Huzzah!
In the current state of the economy, I would try and work with people—although it is total crap that some people feel they can pull you around and cost more money to go to work, than to actually work—so you don’t make any money.
You could say that you were let go because they didn’t have enough work to cover all the shifts. If you don’t plan on collecting unemployment, you could claim that you quit—because they didn’t have enough available shifts and that they would have you come in only to cut you early and ask you return and cut you early later in the day.
Thanks,
Since I had two jobs, it doesn’t show a gap in my employment if I just omit the fact that I worked there..
