Hey Everyone,

I have a problem. I’m obsessed with hair dye !
I’ve been red, blonde, brown, brunette and now black!
I didn’t want to dye my hair black just a little lighter. But my hair was already dark so i thought ‘why not dye it black, it wont be that bad?!’.
So i went ahead and dyed my hair black. IT’S AWFUL!
It makes my skin look pale when actually im a naturally tanned girl. It looks so un real and now im worried what others will think!

I NEED YOUR HELP AND ADVICE!

Will dying my hair back to brunette ruin my hair or make it go green etc ?

How many times do you have to dye your hair before it falls out ?

Whats the best hair dye product out there ?

Will my Black hair instantly go brown/brunette after ive dyed my hair back to normal, or will it take a couple of sessions ?

I’d really love your help and advice as i start school on wednesday and cannot bear to get picked on for it! Emma, Tots of love xx

hrmm.. if you want your hair to go back to how it was the best thing would be just to leave it till it grows out, or you could dye it back and you might get a bad case of green hair if it works at all.
green hair can be cured though by putting tomato ketchup on your hair leaving it for a while then washing it out (this really works believe me i tried it) you may smell like tomatos for a few days though.
failing all that buy a nice hat :P

Hair dye is permanent. And you can’t get it out without ruining your hair. If you indeed wish to change it, it is smart to contact the hair dye producer. He might have some information. If not, you’ll be tough luck. What also might work, is non-permanent hair dye. this only covers the surface and therefore doesn’t **** up your hair. It is an expensive solution though. But a solution either way.

hmm an interesting fact for ya–> hair dyes can cause balding; extensive use can cause cancer.

Ur natural hair colour should look good.

Only one problem - My school does’nt allow hats, They are really strict and i can’t face the fact that my hair will always be black until it grows out. Im naturally a dark blonde so having blonde with blacks roots really isnt my style.
I know i may **** up my hair but my only option is to dye my hair to a dark brunette and every month down colour it etc.
I just want to be either blonde or brown !

+ my natural colour does look good, hehe.
After this i wont be dyeing my hair until im 50 but that would be weird ?! lol

i am aware it can cause cancer and hair loss but ive used clairol - nice’n'easy before and havent had any reactions to it. So would colouring my hair one more time affect it ?

Call your local hair stylist. I’ve heard that washing your hair with laundry detergent will lighten it but I wouldn’t try it without contacting a professional.

Wash it daily and the color does always fade. It just takes a week or so.

If you wait a couple of days and die it again, a dark brown, you should be ok. Just condition it alot.

Yes, but green is just one of the possible outcomes. It could be yellow, or purple, or even not even. It will most likely not become any lighter though. (what haircolour did you use (brand etc.)?

Have you considered getting light brown streaks ? It might just break up the harshness of the black without having to re dye the entire bulk of the hair.

Nice’n'easy clariol

(i’ve used this before)

natural black - (not very natural to me!)

I dont think it will go green, blue etc. I dont think it will fall out.

Light brown streaks - will make it look worse in my opinion i just want to be brunette like in my picture and after that i will never do any thing with hair dye again!

eye colour- Hazel/Greeny

yes, however in the proces your hairs keratine-structure will become totally ruined. If you have thick strong hair, you could salvish it, if you don’t your hair will become dry, frizzy and possibly even break to pieces. And remember that peroxide is used for removing NATURAL hair colour. So you must make sure that your chemical dye doesn’t react with the peroxide. Our your hair could become, say, pink?

You wont be able to dye it light brown. You can only go darker and darker, unless you are prepared to use a bleach of some kind to bring it back a few shades

If you are serious go to your local technical college and they will ’strip’ out the black dye. They only charge for the materials so it wont cost much.

However - stripped hair is more fragile - take a picture with you of your natural colour so they can re-dye it as a match.

You will then need to take very good care of your hair until it grows out.

p.s. dont put washing powder anywhere near it - it makes black turn orange.

Good luck - Mas

Good to know, thanks Mas. I wondered if the old detergent myth was true or not.

Emma, are you sure it looks that bad? You know we are often the most critical of ourselves. I can understand though with you not liking it the effects it would have on your self esteem…

If you are that bothered see a hair stylist and have it put right. That way you aren’t taking the chance of making it worse. It will lighten as you wash it.

Tints/colours add colour to the hair.
Bleach and high lifts remove colour.

Black is the darkest colour you can go, tint on tint will not lighten a black colour, so no, adding brown will do nothing at all to your hair.

Bleach is the only thing that will lift the colour out and you will probably not get as light as you want right away.

Mid brown if she is lucky, bleaching black is one of the hardest to do, red being the hardest.

She will probably go quiet patchy with browny orange appearance so just bleach alone is not ideal, you need to bleach to strip as much of the black out and then add a tint after that.

Bleaching your own hair is not a wise idea though unless you are fully stocked up on bleach and all sorts of colours because it is a VERY tempremantal thing, it could go perfect or it could go bright amber, it;stouch and go :S

I would recommend NOT useing a high peroxide, 60% is a NO, Best off with 30-40% vol peroxide

I adress the same arguments as lazydaze. It is just impossible to redye your hair and make it lighter without the use of bleaching-alike chemicals. (didn’t know about the red though) You can only paint it darker.

In the meanwhile; hairextentions? just changing your appearence all together? If you seem pale, lie in the sun, just a little bit more?

lol emma, you need to listen to lazy. She is making sense here.

I actually used hi-lift 40% in my hair for streaks, and it’s really good stuff. It actually allows you to either leave it in for a long time for blonde, or wash it out a little earlier for brown. It doesn’t seem to go that horrible orange

A brown hair colour will do NOTHING to your hair, you need to remove colour not add it.

It sounds like you’ve dyed your hair a lot though, so be expecting to have to go into damage control.

Once you add bleach or a stripper, your hair could turn rubbery and break off.

Have you seen that happen lazy ? God that happened to my hair once when I was younger. I nearly died.

Yeah, I have seen that happen, not usually with bleaching tints out though but more with women who constantly bleach their hair to platinum or something.
It’s horrid when wet, feels like chewing gum, all tacky and stretchy.

One woman had her hair permed a day after she bleached it, she did it all herself at home, when I looked at her hair I was shocked it had not meted and snapped it was that awful and she was insisting she wanted it bleached a little lighter…

That is the whole argument, getting it back to normal, you can’t just slap a brown colour on black and by majic your hair is back to the way it was.
