I am trying to get my insurance license and keep my car. I need my car for work and getting my 7 year old to school. I have been trying for months to get a job but nothing. This is the first time in my life I have had trouble finding a job. Now I am a week away from loosing my car because I can not keep up. I used all my resources and even sold things. I have nothing left to sell and I asked our government here and they offered me 92.00. Can you believe that???!!

That is awful, thats not enough. Where abouts are you from?

First things first, accept the 92 (just because at least its something)

Can the government give you any kind of cheap/free access to public transport?

Public trans will not wrok. I have excepted the 92.00. I live in one suburb and my daughter goes to school in another. She is ADHD and behind and I do not want to transfer her out of school that she has been given so much help and have her start all over. She is familar with her sourdings. ALso the insurance job I want to take I will be taveling all over and still have to be back in time to get her off the bus.

Could the government help you with some kind of daycare? or arrangements like that?

Or what about some kind of disability help?

If your government can’t help you, have you considered asking your church? They usually help out with donations. They may be able to help you pay for the car so you can at least have transport. Or they may personally help with your daughter etc?

Or try a charity?

I have been trying and nothing. My daughter was abused in daycare so I am leering about that. She came home with straches all down her back and told me the teacher did it. That is why I will not transfer her because she finally has a sence of security. Unfortunantly, I do not belong to a church.

Oh god thats awful !!

Are you from the USA? or UK? I’ll invite some friends to see if they have any more specific ideas for you.

I’m from the UK so I’m not too familiar with how other governments work and what they offer.

You dont need to belong to a church; you just need to walk into one and talk to the people there.

It also doesn’t have to be a church; go to any place where a group of people congregate and ask for help.

I do not belong to a church.

You are far more likely to get local people to help you then people on line or in the government to help you. Its human nature for people to want to help other who are local rather then people who aren’t. It gives the person more of a feeling of accomplishment.

So now that you don’t have a job, what do you do between the times you drop your daughter off and pick her up.

How is your relationship with your parents and other family members?

I study about 3.5 hours. There is four parts to the exam with practice tests, etc. My sister lost everything in her basement, furnance, washer/dryers, walls flooring etc. Her insurance did not help much so they are not oming out of pocket. Her husband hours were cut and they have 1 kid in college now they are hurting I can not ask them. My brother he is in foreclsure so between that and attorney’s I can not ask him. I need approximately 2500 to keep my car and get my licensing finished and insurance back on my car.

Why do you need to ask them for money? You can ask them for a place to stay, or the use of their car. You could also offer to help clean up the house now that it is damaged in return for the help.

So then you have about 3 or so hours of free time that you use to look for a job? Since I can’t believe you need 3 or so hours every day to look for a job, I will assume you can spend that time doing other things most of the time.

Go door to door asking people if they have any work around their place that needs to be done. That you would like to do it for them for a small donation. Explain your situation to them and many will be likely to give you something to do. You could also do this after you pick your daughter up as you could take her with you, and she could help you out a bit.

I’m a single mom as well even though that is finally about to change. A few months ago I had no job no car no license no nothing and was even losing my child it seemed because my family did not want to help me they just wanted to hurt my situation. I also did not attend church and lets not forget our wonderful government…. they helped me with NADA.
I finally asked the family I don’t get along with to bring me to the dmv if I could get back home so they did, I got my license I wound up finding a job started working and just sorta rebuilt myself from there.
My best advice is try to find a resource a friend or someone who can help you stand during this time and just try everything you can so you don’t have a mental breakdown.

I lived with my sister already and the basement is where we stayed. I did help my sister with clean up in return for the help she already gave me. And yes I can not believe I have not found a job yet either. I have always had no problem finding one. As I said before my daighter has ADHD and can be a bit out of control so to take her with me is not a option. Also I mentioned that day care would not work since she has been abused there that is why she goes where she goes because of a sense of security. She now trusts her teachers. As far as asking to use a car they only have one. Right now I am living in a friends house who is helping me with that so I do not have to pay rent right now. I have pictures of the flood, pictures of the scratches on my daughters back and my resume that is doing nothing for me now. If I spend that time going door to door instead of business to business I could loose out on a steady job.

I was a loan officer and that is so not happening right now. So when I apply for a adminstrative job (even though I have experience) I feel they are lookign at my experience and think I am going to ask for a lot of money. I WILL TAKE THE 10.00/hour JOB. I just get pasted over. I even went to Burger King. I will take anything right now, but I keep getting looked over. I can get a loan officer job, but again that is self employed, find your own leads etc. The market is no good, bank products are no long there. That is why I want my Health insurance license because it is the same thing like what I did but it is financial security due to commisions monthly and residuals. I will always have money coming in.

My opinion is that you are not willing to go door to door. Their could not possibly be enough business in our town that would suit your qualifications to go business to business very day for 3 hours a day.

Also many people have children with ADHD you should not use it as a crutch; there is no reason that should bar you from taking the child with you as you clean out peoples basements and attics and ect.

Why can’t your sister drive your daughter to school?

So what is that you want than? What will be the magic pill that will deliver you from your situation?

When you go to Burger King do you supply them with your résumé and ask for an administrative job? Or do you fill out an application, don’t mention anything about your previous work and not that you wouldn’t mind being a fry cook?

I live in Berwyn and my daughter goes to school in wood dale. I drive her everyday to the bus and pick her up. I drive from suburb to suburb for work. I have had every week 6 to 8 interviews. and yes when I go to Burger King I tried not to submit a resume but they want work references and there is no way to lie about that because they check. I have three different resumes for interviews. I know all of this already to down play but lately everyone is checking. And again I am not using my daughter as a crutch but to take her into someones house while she is climbing and knocking things over and the fact that she can’t control her impulses is just common sense not to bring her because I can’t afford to pay for something she broke. My sister does not drive. She lives in Wood Dale so if she did she would have to drive to Berwyn to drive back to Wood Dale and with her husband taking the car to work there is no car there. They have there own financial crisis.

I have been out of work since April and sold everything I have to sell. There is nothing left. I have sold mento’s from my grandmother and brother who passed away to get by. That hurts. I tried everything and I am sure I am not the only one in this situation. But my time ran out. I have sold one policy through my manger but I still have to get my license so I am trying. I can not sell anymore until I complete that otherwise I am violating the law. That policy only paid 50.00. But it will pay every month that is why this is important for me to get this license because I can sell, I can market myself and I can have financial security every month.

Hi… I’m sorry to hear of your situation. There was a time in my life when our good ol’ gov demanded I return 100% of the aid they paid me (even though I was not found guilty of fraud)… then they were willing to provide aid to just me (and not my children) and generously starting paying $13 per month in grocery aid only. I’ve been laid off since December 07… looking for work steadily… nothing. I have registered at 3 different Temp Agencies… nothing. If it were not for family my situation would be dire. The hardest of it all is to keep positive perspective, and that is the most critical - to remain positive.

There is an old say; “Everything happens for a reason”. Yeah, I hated it too. What reason could there be; what positive reason was there that I was made to go through all this crap?! Well, sometimes it’s hard to see… sometimes it’s very painful to see… but the lessons are always there. Unfortunately no one can tell you what your lesson is, you have to determine that for yourself. You can seek aid from others to find out what it’s all about… and help.com is a perfect venue for that. I’m sorry that no one here can offer you a cash settlement… I know that would solve many issues for you, but many of us are in the same boat, and that would only be a temporary solution at best.

This is a trying time for our country… it is the reason our current political race is so nasty. Make sure you vote today! It’s time to really start thinking out of the box. In order to grow we must push ourselves… and it sounds like you are doing just that now. Now is the critical time for positive persistance.

I know much of what I have to say sounds like just more platitudes… and who needs that when your livelihood is at stake, I know how that feels. But it is exactly at times like these that we need something to remind us how we thought when everything was going right with us. It’s all about perspective and action.
Bright blessings ~ Richard

I am 30 mintues away from her school by car and that is all highway. That is not an option. I need my car for when I get my license because you have to bring the policys to the insurer to explain and get signed. Also for marketing purposes because again you are basically out soliciting your business. You can’t do all of it over the phone. Also a night job will not work because who is going to watch my daughter. That would not be fair to her as I will be dragging her back and forth getting her to bed late. I did think about it and was trying to work that out but my sister does not have the space even if she was to spend the night because of the recent flood here. Again I do not know what to do.

if your child has a disability, the school has a bus that WILL pick your child up for school and drop her off.. you need to get a hold of the school and sign her up for it.
