Can People Please HELP!

Well, My fiance and I work in an Adult Foster Care Home. We just accepted a resident who has Alzheimers/Dementia. We were concerned that we did not have the correct training to be giving cares to this resident, so I called DHS and asked. The dhs person said that we have to have specialized training in Dementia care, but our boss aka the Owner, says that we do not need any other training.

We are concerned that the House will get shut down and we will lose our jobs, and also that I could never be able to open a residential care home of my own.

What should be done?
We have asked the owner to call DHS and ask about our concern and our findings, but she refuses to do it.
We have called our parents to see what we should do, and they said to look for new jobs.. which we have only had this job for 3 weeks.

I agree with your parents. If you are working for a company that may be doing unethical things (especially in healthcare), you should get out fast. If you’ve only been there three weeks, it isn’t much of a loss to get out now. Besides, I’m sure the owner doesn’t like the questions you’re asking. She’s may be already trying to figure out how to get rid you you.

Honey, people with dementia require very specialized care. You need to look for some sort of training for that. Your best bet would be to ask the people who are assigning you this person if you actually need some sort of training. Look into your state where you are or even the social security office. They can advice you. You don’t want to be accused of doing this just for the money and may even end up in trouble.

I called the Department of Human Services and I know that we are supposed to have training, but the owner refuses to accept that we do not have the correct items or care training to have her live here.

I am now looking for a new job!

Why don’t you see if they have a pamphlet for that? Ask! Did you already quit?

The owner of the facility sounds like she’s getting a hefty amount and she wants you and your boyfriend to do the heavy lifting. Literally!

We have 2 residents and the owner just sits around or leaves… she is never here and does not help, because she doesnt know that in the H3ll to do! I just really wish she would call and realize that we are correct that we need specialized training, before state comes and shuts her house down!

Honestly, that’s be best idea.
But it makes me curious as to why your boss basically refuses to accept the fact that your facility doesn’t offer the kind of care he needs?
Usually if it’s something serious like that, they’d gladly hand off patients who they can’t properly care for..
Seems a bit weird.
