A short survey about Help.com
I am writing a compare/contrast research paper about two social networking sites: Help.com and Facebook.
Since it’s supposed to be 8-10 pages, I need to do a lot of research, and what better place to turn than to Help.com! Gosh, how convenient.
I need you help! If you can answer a few questions, it would make my life so much easier.
I will post about 4 questions, two or three times a day, so I can get a good sample from you helpful, helpful people.
(Please be as detailed as possible! But, don’t give out any information you wouldn’t want me to use in my paper)

Problems with Myspace.com, Friendster or Bebo.com?
Generally speaking, if you are having issues with those sites it is best to contact their support staff directly. These links can get you started:
Myspace Support, Friendster Support and Bebo Support
If you are trying to access these services from your school and are blocked, we suggest you abide by the schools rules while you utilize the schools equipment.

How useful/helpful is Help.com?- Quite.

they are very useful. you can network. socially. sorry, i know that mustve been uber helpful.
1.Age and occupation (optional, but helpful!)
28. I’m a coder at a software company.
2.How often do you use Help.com?
almost everyday but weekend
Facebook?
everyday even during weekend.
MySpace?
sucks. once in a 10 days or longer.
3.How useful do you think each site is?
Help.com is more helpful coz i can solve my personal problems or release stress that i can’t tell my frds. and i also can halp others. it’s good to hear from strangers that i would never encounter in a real life so that i can hear more advice or opinions.
Facebook is to keep in touch with frds and know the events for the week. also to share pictures with frds. but sometimes it gets annoying. especially, it’s not perfectly private. some info i don want to share with certain frds. but i still have to. you accidentaly see your ex’s pic on other frd’s facebook. it sucks if your ex has new partner.
4.How useful do you think social networking sites are as a whole? What makes them useful?
easy to use. easy to connect. easy to get information. but sometimes have to share personal info.
1: 13, Student?
2: Help.com - Everyday all the time. Only stop for School, and sleep which isn’t much :P
Facebook - Once in a month maybe just to look at it, :P
Myspace - Never. Only to check someone’s profile if they link me :P
3: It’s name is Help.com it helps so yeah it is very useful.
4: If they are easy they are good. I wouldn’t call help.com a social networking site :P Lol. And Social networking sites are useful for contact but only really if the other person is online as well.
Sam
1. 20 years old - Unemployed/Student
2.Help.com = Almost all day, every day
Facebook = Average about once every three days
MySpace = Never
3.Help.com is very useful because it brings people together is a communal effort to help others in the world community. Facebook lets people I once knew find me again, which I am not that fussed over. I couldnt stand losing Help, but facebook is a bit… meh.
4.Social networking sites are not that useful, yes they let you keep in contact with your friends, but if they are real friends, wouldnt you keep in contact by phone or instant messaging anyway? It lets people think they really have 500 friends, none of whom they say they are and play innane games and take stupid quizzes then invite 200 other “friends” so they can see how they match up.
1. 23 years old, no occupation.
2. Read on help.com daily for a few hours. Don’t have myspace/facebook, I only visit myspace.com if I find an artist/label that I want to buy from and if I have no other option.
3. Help.com is more then just useful, it’s my hope, part of my tiny world.
4. See above, I dislike phones with a passion, I’m introverted and ’socialy isolated’ basicly it’s pretty rare for me to talk to anyone outside my direct family or my therapist in real life.
1.age and occupation
21 and i’m a pca and dsp(health field)
2.how often do you use help.com?
Hardly ever, only when i’m going crazy!
Facebook?
Maybe once a week, if that
Myspace?
Almost daily!
3.how useful do you think each site is?
Help.com isn’t as effected when i post things as it might be for others. i find that normally when i post something that hardly anyone responds to them and when someone does respond it’s more upsetting at times then anything. but i’m not dogging this site i’m just saying it’s not as useful for me as it is for others.
Facebook is some what useful because i keep in touch with people i don’t see much, and if i need help with something i can turn to a friend.
Myspace is very useful for me because i have a lot of people i talk to on it and i keep in touch with a lot of people i haven’t seen for over 4 years now. but i can’t always talk to “friends” about that problems that i have because i don’t what them to judge me or they haven’t lived the moment to help with, and thats why i turn to help.com (i would call my friends but i have no phone, so internet is my only way of talking to my friends right now)
How useful/helpful is help.com?
Like i said before it’s not as effected with me, but it’s helpful at times because i don’t know anyone on here personal so they can’t judge me when i’m walking down the street. and there is a lot of people on here where people have lived through hard times that i would be asking for help about, so it’s helpful when i get the help!
4.how useful do you think social networking sites are as a whole? what makes them useful?
Very useful!!!
1) 25, Human Resources Managment
2) 5x per week/Never/2x per year
3) 10 of 10/ ?/ 4 of 10
4) 8 of 10/ They provide the opportunity for open and honest discussion (anonymity)
1} Age and occupation
2} Help.com - I log on every day.
Facebook - Don’t have one.
MySpace - I log on every day.
3} MySpace - It’s not meant to be useful in the sense that Help.com is. On MySpace you make friends, communicate, etc.
Help.com - VERY useful! When you make a post, almost right away people find it, read it, and answer it. Even if you don’t need help, and are just feeling bad, someone always finds it and talks to you, cheers you up.
4} Social networking sites….hm. Well, you make friends, even if they’re just online, it gives you someone to talk to. If you have nothing to do, you send a random message, type a random post, and see what it sparks. If you can’t go see your friends (maybe they’re on vacation) you can talk to them on MySpace, Help, Facebook, etc. Well, email works for that too, but you see my point.
Ok, I’m going to stop talking now. Because if I don’t, I’ll just keep going and going and going and going…………
1.) 15 (almost sixteen) and I baby-sit almost every weekend
2.) I’m on Help.com way too often. No Facebook, no MySpace, but I do check out some people’s pages, musicians I like, mostly.
3.) I think Help.com is very, very useful. It gives me something to do when I’m totally bored and it’s cool because when I can’t sleep, there are people on from all over the world, so there’s usually someone to talk to.
4.) Social networking sites. They’re good if you use them right, like on Help.com, but when it gets to the point where your MySpace page is on 20/20, you have a problem.
