friends help: Curious, why do posters put a lock on an invite? - Help.com

I’ve never created an invite, and I didn’t know you could put a lock on them.

I got a couple of friends who locked their accounts from invites. First i thought it was odd but then i also think that it is sometimes tiring to get a whole lot of invites especially if you got a couple of friends who invite you to a couple of post every hour. lol

I feel guilty not being able to reply to invites but i cannot answer to all of them anyway. So i let it be. :)

Yesterday I got five, so…

I got 10 invites to my own post once. I wonder how that happened Laina?

Locks from all friends, or just favourites who haven’t added you yet?

I only did it three times!!

I was kidding. Hannah did it 6, Chickens just once.

I believe you can only “lock” fans(people who have added you but you haven’t added back)

I have mine locked but only to people who are not on my friends list, if you have added someone and they have not added you back then they may have a lock on their name if they have done the same as me.
This is to prevent mass invites, I get alot of invites and I look at most of them but I do not reply to all as some people just mass invite to everything without any consideration to that person and if they can help on that post or not.

I mean just in the last couple of days I have had at least 20 mass invites to posts about the elections in America when nearly everyone here knows I am not American as I do not hide my location yet no one has thought about that.

I haven’t locked anyone out.

However, as for invites….it depends if I am on or not. Sometimes when I log in, the invite is already 20 hours old. It’s over and done with. No point replying. Some are things I deliberately try to avoid, some are interesting and some are just pointless.

I tend not to worry about it too much now. When I log on, I always check out the list, and if it is not too old, and I think I can contribute, then I do. If not, I don’t.

But I also don’t take offense if someone doesn’t rely to my invite. They might not reply for the same reasons. I just don’t worry about it or get upset.

Actually, I’m just thrilled if someone I invited turns up, rather than being offended if they don’t. :)

There are days when I only have time to help a couple of users, who have easy to solve problems. When I check on invites, I usually find that other helpers have already helped the poster. Also, while I enjoy reading my friend’s posts, sometimes I just want to be helpful, but I feel obligated to read a friend’s poem or rant, instead. I have never considered locking out invitations, but I understand why some popular users, do.
